Begs the question though, how the SEC got 14 of 16 teams into the tournament with 6 teams with a conference record under 500 (including two at 6-12). Looks like those teams had plenty of chances to prove themselves and couldn't all season. Why give them a shot at the national title vs say Bradley @ 27-8 or someone well deserving?? Mid majors over Power programs are always more exciting than Power Program over Power Program.
Something needs to be fixed.
Unfortunately, conferences like the SEC and BIG have decided that making money should come before everything else, even if it makes the product on the floor less interesting or inclusive to mid-majors. And they've been able to push their weight around so effectively that the governing body of the sport cannot meaningfully push back.
The toothpaste is out of the tube and we're not going back. In fact, everything is pointing at us having D1 and D1A tournaments down the road. The power conference schools hate getting embarrassed by plucky mid-majors. And it takes away revenue from the conference.
