Then, there are players who choreograph what they will do after a good play to bring attention to themselves. Comparing Kimba's elation after hitting a game winning shot to Mr. Routine's "Look At Me" antics are apples and oranges. The man needs to act like he has dunked, blocked a shot, and hit a shot before.
Exactly right. Even in golf, there is nothing wrong with a fist pump after a long birdie putt to win a tournament, but the fist pump is quickly put away as the golfer graciously shakes his opponents hand. You may say golf is a bad example, I for one would like to see more emotion in golf, but that is the benchmark for sportsmanship.
On another note, MSU fans chime in on how Weems is a model citizen, and that may very well be true. For all I know, the guy helps little old ladies across the street, volunteers at the local childrens hospital, gives a full, pretax tithe to his church and serves meals at the local homeless shelter. All of that is seen by the people in Springfield. Nobody in Wichita, Omaha, Des Moines, Evansville, Terra Haute, Carbondale, Normal, Peoriaor Cedar Falls sees any of it. And frankly, they don't care, nor should they. Whatever good Weems does in the community goes no further than the local fans.
On the flipside, like it or not, your basketball team is the face of Missouri State. Nobody outside of Springfield sees any of the good that Weems may do. The only thing that is presented to the entire country on CBS, ESPN and Fox Sports is how he acts on the court. The gestures, the stare downs, the arm flexes, the Superman's, the gorilla chest beating and the crying when things don't go his way, that is Missouri State because that is what the world sees of Missouri State. Weems is the leader of the team and the posterchild of the program. That is all the world sees and knows of of Missouri State. That is the billboard displayed for everyone to see. In the eyes of locals, Weems is a great guy, in the eyes of the rest of the world, Missouri State is a bunch of showboating poorsports, who cry when they lose. It may not be accurate, but you are what you project. As AceDad said, you should have left this one alone.

Coach Jake might have (I can't confirm this in anyway right now) done a small fist pump in front of him.
The difference between UNI and MSU is stunning in this area. I couldn't ever imagine UNI running around like that.
Uh, UNI was guilty of grandstanding and overall abhorrent behavior that year. The game in Springfield was a perfect example, the dude on UNI that looked liek they guy from My Name is Earl (blanking on his name) was taunting the student section all game long. Also I remember UNI players taunting the Kansas player that had collapsed on the court in sadness. Not exactly a class act.
I'm calling BS on this. I have never seen evidence of or even heard this accusation made before. No UNI players even went near him.

I also love how one of the moderators is able to name-call and run smack. I'll keep that in mind.
And, by the way, calling "the rest of the world" to be "Wichita and the six people in Evansville who pay attention to anything" is kind of a stretch.
