I don’t know if “backed out” is the proper terminology but I think SIU would’ve had him if they promised the playing time he wanted. I have two guesses on what it could be. 1. Not promising the playing time/starting role he wanted. 2. Something health related.

Personally I wanted Kennedy. But I’ll wait to see what we end up with.

I don’t think SIU “backed” off like some have indicated some of the SIU fans are blinded by Mullins he has been weak on the recruiting front . It is my understanding that Kennedy didn’t want to leave Chicago. I do believe that there were some injury concerns but Kennedy is only one of two recruits to visit this spring. So I do believe that SIU still wanted him. What some of the fans think is that with the recent hiring of Howard there will be better options IF SIU is patient. Jerrance Howard on paper is a great hire for Mullins especially with the struggles that Mullins and his staff have had on the recruiting trail. However he better produce this spring SIU’s current roster is definitely a bottom of the league roster. Especially on the guard front with only Trent Brown and Xavier Johnson currently on the roster as scholarship guards. Right now this is a bad SIU team and the heat will definitely be on for Mullins next year.

Marquise Kennedy would have been a good pickup, but not a difference maker. I'm sure SIU worked him out on specific drills, and with the team. Maybe they saw something they didn't like? He's a Chicago kid who was a star at Brother Rice and then at Loyola, but his playing time dropped significantly this season. Draw your own conclusions there. IF SIU lands the guards/players they are currently pursuing, fans will forget all about Air Jordan Kennedy. May11th will be here soon, and we'll be hearing some good news very soon. Possibly even this week I'm hearing. Lord knows we need the help! :D

You could be right about him but I wouldn’t be so confident in saying that only 2 recruits have visited so far. To my understanding, Rupert blindsided everyone last year when he signed with SIU. Twitter and these boards don’t always have all of the information out there.

Mogbo (entered the portal quite awhile ago) has committed to San Francisco.

I think UIC is going to be a solid all around add for the MVC very soon and they will make significant strides this upcoming season. They may not be fully visible next year as Carter is a big loss but they will be there. Very optimistic about the Flames future and the future of the league as a whole. I also think even though we've been slow to land commitments that Valpo hit an absolute home run with Powell and that he will do amazing things. If I'm right about UIC and Valpo starts to rise this is going to become a really good league really quickly.

It's only news until we see guys play. Sometimes it turns into bad news once we see recruits on the floor :).

That's true for every team.

SIU has 5 spots to fill still so they're going to add players no matter what. The question is, are they good players?

Marquise Kennedy would be an upgrade over any guard on SIU's roster right now. I agree that not all the information about recruiting is posted on line that is why I don't get my information from twitter or these message boards. I know that you don't have any reason to believe me but I can assure you that to date only 2 portal recruits have visited SIU this spring. Obviously there will be more like SALUKIWORLD stated they still have 5 positions to fill. Yes a lot of the SIU fans were surprised with a few signee's last year but I did hear about them before hand. I use to post on the Saluki talk website but I don't post on the Saluki insider site because too many of those posters blast anyone that says anything negative or questions anything about Mullins. Saluki talk was a much more informative site, a lot of the people who had real information left and didn't come back to Saluki Insider not exactly sure why. If you read that site you know which posters I am talking about. Of course there are still a few good posters on Saluki insider but not as much insider information gets posted on there like what was posted on Saluki Talk. I really do like Mullins and believe he is a class act but his recruiting HAS to get better or he will definitely be on the hot seat after next year. Hopefully his new assistant will pull out a few difference makers out of the portal. SIU has lost 4 to the portal and all 4 have already committed to other schools and SIU has yet to get a spring commitment. Not a good look for SIU, especially when their leading returning scorer averaged a little over 7 ppg on a team that shall we say struggled to score.
