It's a longevity bonus that, as I understand it, is really a $100k per year bonus for each year he stays past three years. That would mean year 1 - no bonus. Year 2 - no bonus. Year 3 - $300k. Year 4 - $100k, Year 5 - $100k etc.

If someone who understands it better than I, please clarify.

Obviously it is impossible to know for sure, but it would seem like Horn's on a hot seat entering the season.

One other side note - if Horn gets canned, both coaches from that Drake-WKU NCAA tourney game that bolted for bigger paychecks, would have been dismissed from those jobs.

Good for WSU to keep Marshall around. Hopefully, he doesn't run after all those guys graduate next year.

Graduate is the key word there, DoubleJay. All of Marshall's seniors this year are graduating. I would expect next year to be the same. Thanks for bringing that up. I'll add that the team GPA this season was the highest in school history.

As for the one year extension, if true, that would be a bit problematic to me if I were a Shocker fan. I would guess that Marshall didn't want the NC State job, but did not allow himself to be locked into a longterm deal with a big buyout. If true, smart move for Marshall as there will be better jobs than NC State opening up next year.

Marshall said there would be a long term extension. The exact years has not been finalized, but he's hoping for extension much longer than 1 year.

It is expected to be a 5-7 year extension. A lot of calls were made by the AD's staff in the past 24 hours to raise money.

"I go with my gut," he said. "It wasn't time to leave. This is a great place."

Evidently an ACC team wasn't able to make a great offer.

The actual wording was "unbelievable offer".

An ACC team offering $1.9 mill a year didn't meet Gregg's definition of an "unbelievable offer".

Any coach will leave if they get an "unbelievable offer". Exceptions are probably UNC, Duke, KU (maybe). What offers did your coach get, valleychamp? I imagine Marshall is the only Valley coach who would turn down $2 mill a year in the ACC.

WSU fans are confident that Marshall will leave some day. As long as that day isn't today, we're happy. That's what happens when a school hires a good coach who's well-respected on a national level, and has a proven track record.

WSU admins get on the phones, call WSU alums and residents with pride in the Shox, and raise money for the athletic department. UNI admins get on the phones and beg the legislature not to cut off their $4 mill handout with the threat of dropping athletics if they don't get that.

You might want to learn to play the game the way the big boys play it before you go sniping on comments made by the big boys coaches, valleychamp.
