All the momentum unraveled at that point, basically relying on our third post player at that point. (McDermott would likely have started the season as #2 post player if not for the soap opera last summer).

As for next year, I would say the talent level is moving up from what historically UNI has been able to grab recruiting wise. Marvin Singleton from Minneapolis should be be in the mix right away. Take player built Kwadzo, add four inches (to 6' 6") and 15 pounds, a back to the basket game and an O'Rear type attitude down low. How this plays out at the next level, who knows, but he looked fantastic in the Minnesota HS playoffs.

Everybody loves their own incoming guys so I can see being excited. All I know is without O'Rear UNI could barely win a game, and he isn't back and neither is their best player. Coaching his socks off, and Ben did, UNI finished 2-8, and that's with Kwazdo. I'm not saying UNI's going to be bad, but it's hard to project the Panthers ahead of too many teams next season in the Valley.

Completely rationale position - however, UNI's rebuilding is not in a vacuum. Drake, Evansville, ILL ST, and Bradley are all in turmoil, with Drake, IMO, having the best chance of moving up. Missouri State lost a lot, and how the coaching change works the first year, who knows.

I am not thinking UNI will win the valley next year. It's probably WSU #1, Creighton #, UNI / IN ST / MO ST fighting for 3rd. Maybe I will change my thoughts a couple games into the season, but we simply have too many unknowns on the posts to reach further than that. I feel pretty confident on the backcourt, if for nothing else, we have 9 guards, so one of them has to able to shoot on a given night.

Before O'Rear went down, UNI had just won on the road at WSU, and MSU, and was right on the cusp of another MVC title. Not to mention the fact that we were playing without the freshman post player that we were counting on having, who then went on to be a first team all MVC player.

Take away the top two big men from each MVC team, and how good will that team be?

UNI has a big class coming in next year, and we are in the process of developing some youth in the post. Next year should be more of a rebuilding type year, but I do still expect them to finish mid-pack type finish again. The 2-3 years after next year, I expect to be very good years for UNI. Its a process.

Great to hear he is staying... for now. I think if a Big Ten job opens (Minny, Nebraska, Illinois) he would be on the very short list and I would be surprised if he turned those jobs down.

Fair enough. The same could be said for most successful Valley coaches though.

The only B10 jobs I'm "worried" about are Minnesota and Wisconsin.

We may not have lost Jacobson but we lost our top assistant Kyle Green...
