Read the very first post in this thread.

If we were to leave would MVC schools be interested in home-and-home series or would they hold a grudge?

As a WSU fan I say more power to ya if you can escape the valley. Now if the league replaced Creighton with somebody further north or east of the current footprint I would hope WSU starts looking at anybody willing to take them southward or westward. Oh and I would hope WSU/CU would both see benefit to continue playing each other in sports.

One thing that strikes me funny while reading thru all these school fan forums. All of the midwest catholics seem to want nothing to do with other midwest catholics but rather pine for the east coast catholics. When in reality you could probably get a very solid 8 team midwest catholic league going.

1) I am not sure that there are 8 very solid midwest catholic schools.

2) It probably takes the Big East breaking apart to get some of the other midwest schools to agree to form such a conference (Depaul and Marquette are in the Big East and Xavier, Dayton & SLU are in the A10).

I would doubt IlSU would hold a grudge but that doesn't mean Jankovich would schedule you though. After all, we have a SOS of 300+ that needs to be protected. :(

If Creighton gets invited to this supposed Catholic League I won't begrudge them. I doubt you'd see any Missouri State fans do that. Could be an interesting CU versus SLUH fight to get a spot in this mythical league. On the one hand I wish CU well, but I hate SLU(H) with the force of one million suns and we might be forced to absorb them in the Valley if CU wins. That would be devastating for all parties as Billiken fans are as arrogant and conceited as they come. That would be my fear.

I doubt the Valley exists in its current form in a few years anyhow. I see Creighton in their desired Catholic league. Missouri State and Wichita in the Conference USA. Illinois State in the MAC as a full member, SIU to MAC as a junior member for a few years befoe gaining full membership. UNI has had enough marginal success in basketball and volleyball to warrant more, but with the dire economics in Iowa I'm guessing the Summit for them. Bradley, Isu Blue to the Horizon. Maybe Drake too, I think they'll go down with the Valley ship. Charter members and what not. Evansville might find a home in Ohio Valley or D2 Great Lakes Conference. Basically, I think we are the league that gets plucked apart just like the Big 12-2-1. The Big Four won't be able to say no to the MAC, CUSA, and Catholic League and that will set the wheels in motion.

Casey is always good for a quick laugh when I'm feeling stressed. Thanks bud

Now, I realize that this conversation is primarily in regards to basketball because...(everyone in unison) "THE MVC IS A BASKETBALL CONFERENCE" (little, 3yr old kid cuts off a half-second behind everyone else). But bear with me...the talk about some MVFC programs upgrading to FBS has been tossed around quite a bit since I joined this forum. The Casey's and such have assumed that if such a jump would be made, the program as a whole would benefit tremendously.....HOWEVER....a recent develop on PN brought to our attention the current state of Western Kentucky football (yeah remember them? A team that was fairly competitive in the MVFC several years back?). Anyone want to guess how many games they have won in 4 yrs of FBS play (including this season)? I'll wait....50? 25? 15?....100?!?! C'mon Casey get with the program

1...2....3..................FOUR!!!! :o Four wins (all coming from two 2-?? seasons). I think Indiana State's schlaking of them last weekend cemented what has been quietly stewing for some time. THEY SUCK. I'd urge any of you to ask their fans if they regret the move...if they say no, then alert Casey so he can be aware that he is no longer one of the most optimistically delusional homers in college football (that I have had the pleasure of meeting).

Pick your moves carefully. As for UNI, I kinda like this whole perennial contender thing 8-)

Not saying any and all FCS schools who make the jump would flounder like this, that obviously is not and has not been the case with others in the past...just some food for thought for some of you.
"Got it into Moran, final seconds TICK AWAY!! PANTHERS WIN! PANTHERS WIN! Oh BABY, I LOVE THIS TEAM!!! The UNI Panthers have just SHOCKED the College Basketball World. DOWN GOES KANSAS! DOWN GOES KANSAS!!"

This is obvious. I spent sometime playing with what I think Conference USA will look like in a couple years. I think most of the west will go to the Moutain West and UCF, ECU will go to the Big East. It would be a 16 team conference with 12 football schools. Drake football doesn't count for this as they are in the Pioneer League or something. Here they are:
Missouri State
Wichita State
Troy
Drake
Marshall
Southern Miss
Western Kentucky
Louisiana Tech
North Texas
North Dakota State
South Dakota State
Oral Roberts
Middle Tennessee State University
Northern Iowa
Arkansas Little Rock
Arkansas State

It would be a developmental football league, but would be dynamite in the other sports. We could rotate the basketball tournament from Springfield, Wichita, Fargo, Little Rock, etc. Travel could be rough but it looks like a pretty darn good conference to me.

And the winner competes in what? The Meineke Car Care Bowl? No thanks. I really don't think our fans, coaches, and players would view a conference like that as a step up.

BirdmanBB wrote:I don't think Creighton wants out of the MVC, but who would pass up on the opportunity of playing in a bball only conference with the leftovers of the big east. You would basically be looking at a conference like the MVC, but better. Creighton has been rumored to be on that short list if this does occur. If it happens, then good for them and their fans.

If I were creighton fans and I want this to happen, I would be praying for more of the football playing members of the big east to jump ship then this is almost guaranteed to happen unless they want to keep it in the east and only add some A10 and CAA teams to the mix.

Just FWIW, but rumor is that if the eight non-football members of the Big East split off to do their own thing, they will be inviting only Xavier and Butler to make a ten member conference and take things slowly from there. No idea if that's the case, but that idea has come from a few different people now.
