Air Force is a national brand whether they are great at basketball or not. There aren't many others lining up to join so maybe this is an impetus to something more.

Oldsmobile is also a national brand. Or was. Same for Ford Pinto. AFA is a national brand for FB only. Adding a bottom-feeder in basketball only dilutes the MVC's national brand by lowering the RPI's and SoS of all Valley members.

This would suck beyond all comprehension. They bring nothing to the Valley except increased travel costs and 6'5 centers.

NO!!!!!!

Air Force average attendance was 2149 last year? Every Valley team will draw more in their preseason tip off events

If the majority of Valley schools (I have no clue what WSU admin thinks) somehow vote this thru I will puke. I feel pretty good though that this would be an extremely tough sale to the schools, without some huge carrot connected to it (which I don't see how that would be possible).

Thanks for the correction, haha...but that still shows that their spending is basically at Valley levels and like the majority of us, are basketball first. I just think they are a reasonable fit, and unlike many programs the Valley has added in the past, there would not be an adjustment period required.

Anyone know how the schools vote? I can't imagine that the majority would vote yes for less revenue and a weaker basketball conference.

I'm sorry but there would be an adjustment and no that shows their spending is at the bottom with Evansville. Racking up wins in the summit league does not equal value, this goes back to my ORU argument (the one DJA failed to understand). Sure they scored that win against Tenn last year but so did several other mid majors last year against them. Outside of that win (and thats when they had an NBA quality center who is gone) they got nothing of note the last few years. Don't throw in the NCAA appearances because again all that proves is they can beat summit teams.

I hate that I have to sit here and defend why the Valley shouldn't add, it should be obvious. I have nothing against Oakland or their program. However the Valley has 10 schools which is perfect for basketball, why add teams that do not boost national respect and potential ncaa appearances? So I believe outside of the schools I mentioned earlier (Dayton, Xavier, Butler, all of whom would never come to the Valley) then expansion should not be considered, it makes zero sense.

Not when their revenues also increase, genius.

I don't disagree with this paragraph at all. But, if this is a done deal, I think the likely result is 12, to ease the travel burden on the western schools and Evansville. I don't like it either. But it will be a matter of getting the best of what's available. Unfortunately, it probably will be slim pickin's and I am not suggesting anyone over anyone else. It would be nice to know what Elgin's thinking is on it.
