Baker has definately been impressive. And he is one strong dude. I thought Van Vleet would be showing a little more, but he was hurt for a while and missed alot of practice. So he is pretty far behind and we have some pretty damn good point guards. I will be patient. He did a couple things last night in the 2nd half that made me very happy and hopeful for the future.

Baker and King, from Drake both stood out in their first official game as well as in the exhibitions. MSU has 4 freshman that have been equally impressive, if not more so. Bohannon, K Smith, Babineaux, Balentine and Mason also had good premiers. The sample size is still quite small, and only Baker, Balentine and Smith have faced a D-I team, so the award is far from in hand. Whomever wins the FOY will likely have earned it in a big way.

I've been pleasantly surprised with Andre Yates at CU. He won't get enough minutes to compete for this award, but I'm impressed with his skill set.

If Baker keeps playing the way he is, the race for FOY won't even be close. But I suspect as FFV, Early, Wiggins, and DWill get untracked, the scoring will be shared a bit more. If Baker leads our team in scoring this season, you can just mail all trophies to Koch Arena. Before this season started, I didn't count on Baker for much. He is a complete surprise and a player that has just taken the Shockers from deep to scary-deep.

First off, I will completely agree that I am very excited about Baker. He is easily our best offensive option in our back-court. He defends; he can shoot; he is the prototypical Valley player. Otherwise though, we are extremely thin. We have some good bodies we can throw out but we are truly about 8 deep currently. FVV, Chadrick, and Wiggins have a long way to go before they are effective. Early is still in the same learning curve but his superior talent makes him valuable. If we don't go about 8 deep and figure out the traps we struggled against Saturday VCU may rip us up.
Thoughts and prayers to WSU finding a new conference.
