CO, I agree with you on some points, disagree with you on other. Money and status are huge factors to lure a coach away. Why wouldn't they? Every other person on the planet would prefer to make more money and have a better status within their occupation, why wouldn't college basketball coaches? Nostalgia, on the other hand, I don't really agree with. Obviously it plays some sort of factor, i.e Roy Williams, but coaches would almost always take money and prestige above hometown, IMO.
Two of the most important factors IMO, especially with a coach in triple g's situation, are boredom and situation at inquiring schools. He is on the path to be a Dana Altman (probably a better, but from a national perspective the same). He will be constantly contending for/winning Valley regular season and tournament championships. That is good and all for ten years or so, but there is a time when a coach gets bored with that and wants a new challenge. Once a coach has coach established his program has a perennial contender in the MVC there really is not much else he can do. Ya maybe a S16 run every ten years, but that is not enough to keep a coach motivated.
Thinking Marshall will stay forever is dumb. Give it a couple more years and he will start to entertain some of these big time offers if they are still coming.
