It depends on why Teddy was deemed a non-qualifier originally. Did he have the 16 core courses required by the NCAA following high school? If no, his incomplete year of prep school probably dooms his case. If yes, his ineligibility resulted from his inability to score high enough on the NCAA sliding scale (link below). If that is the case, he would need a better test score.

Well if he's a partial qualifier, then he has maybe one more opportunity to take the test prior to the beginning of school. He's probably taken the test at least 6-7 times by now, so he should be getting better. I thought that this had to be taken care of prior to enrolling in school, but maybe not.

I believe he is paying his own way this summer.

The NCAA clearinghouse will still have to clear him by a certain date. As a partial qualifier, he would be able to have a scholarship, or not, be able to practice with the team or not. McLemore at KU was able to practice with the team, on scholarship, but couldn't play for one year.

This espn article looks promising regarding Hawkins eligibilty.

http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/mens-co ... st?id=6901

A year ago, Deontae Hawkins was set to attend Wichita State. The forward might have redshirted his freshman season, such was the depth the Shockers possessed in the frontcourt last year, but had he continued with his initial idea of playing for Gregg Marshall and Co., he would see a bounty of playing time in 2013-14. However, Hawkins, a 6-foot-7 forward, decided to attend a prep school and then explore other college options, ultimately following Dana Ford, the assistant who had recruited him to Wichita, to Illinois State.

Hawkins' decision to commit to the Redbirds' program has flown essentially under the radar, but since Dan Muller's frontcourt has been decimated by transfers and players exhausting their eligibilities, Hawkins' contributions will be pivotal in his first Missouri Valley season. There is even a chance Hawkins could see some playing time as a starter; during a recent open gym, the big showed a skill-set that could prove valuable for Muller and Co., and also displayed a frame capable of handling the beefier frontcourts of the MVC."

Simple. We brought in Calipari as a behind-the-scenes advisor.

'NCAA clearinghouse' and 'partial qualifier' are obsolete terms. The new system of initial eligibility waivers allows the NCAA more grey area. Again, it all depends on his numbers and how the NCAA interprets them.

What the NCAA needs is more grey area...

We'll have to see what happens. This article has some holes in the story. They don't mention that he entered this Iowa prep school because of the guidance of the WSU coaching staff with the understanding of changing his eligibility status. They don't mention that he quit the prep school and coach during the basketball season. Why would they know what is going on regarding his eligibility? He doesn't show it from his writing. He obviously has talent. However, he had some problems at his school in Ohio doing what his coach asked (iirc playing team ball), and then again at his prep school. Maybe he has a relationship with Ford that will overcome all of his history, or maybe he has a flaw in his character that if he has to sit out a year, will haunt him again.

I don't believe he "quit" prep school. My understanding is that his scholarship wasn't renewed for the second semester. "Was removed from" or "was kicked out of" are probably more accurate than "quit".

If he ever sees the court, he could easily be FoY (Flameout of the Year).
