Is it because the players are mostly white, and not black?
Is it because instead of dunking the ball UNI has utilized the lay up?
Is it because they don't do 360 spin moves?
Is it because they don't "look fancy" when they play?
Is it because Lucas O'Rear had mutton chops and a mullet?

I would say mainly because they can't run or jump very well.

So I completely agree with this statement. What if I rephrase my original comment as, "I'd be surprised if another post player was as strong and athletic as the WSU newcomers." I absolutely agree that a player with excellent footwork and an understanding for their role in the offense has the opportunity to be successful against the new front court in Wichita. However, I am doubtful that any MVC posts will be able to push out, drive around, or jump over the Shockers down low.

You know they can't how?

Because the system that Jake has run isn't run an gun, and has been more half court focused?
Because if UNI doesn't have to jump, or have 4 guys jump, for a rebound they don't so you don't get to see 2-3 guys on every shot with no chance a the board jumping as high as they can?
Because you go to every practice and see that no UNI player can run the length of the court in less than 7 seconds, and none have a verticle higher than 13 inches?

You don't know that they can't. Adam Koch was extremely athletic, but he didn't need to try to out jump people because he played angles and position much better than "superior athletes". O'Rear is an extremely gifted athlete. Was he the fastest guy on the court? Nope. Could he jump the highest? Nope....doesn't mean he wasn't/isn't a hell of an athlete.

I suppose you could bring Jordan into it, and I'd listen to that one...I'd also quickly counter back with Garrett Stutz who was ever bit as clumsy as Jordan....even more so if comparing the first three years of their careers

Because when they jump it is not very high. When they run it is not very fast.

That statement I could agree with. However personally I'll reserve judgement that the shox 2 new posts are that strong and athletic until I actually see them in action. Not really doubting you it's just that all of us tend to overrate our new players sometimes.

It's bad news for the rest of the Valley if your post play really is that strong.

I thought this thread was about new comer of the year?...
I'm lost...
After reading up on these guys a little more, I still got Lofton.
Darius seems good too, but I got lofton.

Not because I doubt the talent of everybody else.

It's simply because I know he has the talent to tear this conference to shreds individually.
And it's seems he will have the opportunity to play big minutes and be a focal point of the offense.

This guy is an great scorer and is capable of doing amazing things with the ball in his hands.
Looking forward to seeing how him and the RedBirds fair this year.

So if he doesn't have more talent than the others wouldn't it stand to reason they will also tear the conference to shreds?

Indeed. If he doesn't have more talent than the others, it would stand to reason that they will tear the conference to shreds also...

But that's not what I said.
I stated that Lofton has that talent to tear up the conference,

I also stated that I don't doubt the other players talent levels from what I've seen.
From these statements I was trying to infer that although I am not fully capable of judging these other players talent, I can judge Lofton's. He's a beast.

And he has the skill and tools to make some real noise in this conference and judging by ISU RedBirds current roster situation and turnover he should have ample opportunity to shine and show his talent. Thus making him my favorite for NOY.

Btw. Thanks for getting back on the subject. All this talk of racism, prejudice, & athleticism was starting to throw me off.

Loyola will also be starting five newcomers. Christian Thomas averaged 15.2 ppg and 7.5 rpg over his last 22 games last season. Milton Doyle might also qualify as one of the top 5-7 prospects for the award, a RS Freshman transfer from Kansas.
