Not in WSU's case. Marshall insists on recruiting enough to have 3 point guards on the team at all times. He views it as a cornerstone of his program.

A. Andshock...I really agree with that thesis of Marshall's...and to be honest I think the PG's around the league arent really that far from the high years...but has anyone noticed that the Off-guards are seriousely depleted?

You can't think of any team with terrible front courts?

I don't think Bradley has any courts.

CU's guards are not crappy. Young is among the best in the league, and Jahens is doing a decent job as a freshman. I'd say we have good guards, mediocre small forwards and mostly poor post play. Hopefully, Echinque brings the post play from mediocre to good (or better), and if Wragge stays healthy and Korver can at least not be horrible, then we will have a good guards, doable small forwards and a strong inside presence That should give CU a good chance to finish in the top three or four this year - with an outside shot at second (since they have already dusted off a space in Wichita for the championship trophy).

Thats what she said

I think AY is a good PG and playing way above his performance last year. His offensive confidence is high and he is making good plays/controling tempo.

I dont think any of our other guards/wings have distinguished themselves as dependable. Dash can be good at times, Jahens has energy and sometimes can be a spark, Korver can be decent feeding the post, and seems more confident launching shots, but hasn't been a dependable weapon. Josh Jones has really struggled picking up the new system. You could get something good out of any one of them at times but as a group they account for 2.2 positions and not a lot of production.

Dougie has bee holding down the 4 with impressive fashion as a frosh but it will be great to have a healthy Wragge to hit some 3pters. Neither one is overly atheltic or strong but both can and have contributed and can be used as game planning weapons.

KLaw has had a rough start but he has some ability, just not consistent "fire". GE is big and it will be nice to have someone else to put in when Klaw isn't getting it going. Hopefully GE becomes a dependable weapon.

I don't see how you can say we have good guards, when I count one as "good" right now. 2-3 position is our biggest weakness. If AY gets hurt we are done.

Does McD have a skill set to move to the 3?

from an offensive standpoint, he can play there at least some of the time, but I don't think he is as good an option there as Wragge or even Korver. The real problem (which is also a problem with Wragge) is defending a 6'5" slasher with quicks. He doesn't have the quickness to do it. CU has been working on zone defense, which would allow us to have three of Big E, K Law, Runnels and McDermott on the floor together to put real pressure on the inside. Man to man, it would be very difficult to keep three of those on the floor together because you have to play defense at some point in the game.

If he's able to consistently score 10-12 points a game when the conference season starts he could be a second team type guy. I'd be stunned at this point if he doesn't win freshman of the year though.

I know McDermott is the freshman who has gotten the most hype so far this year, but his numbers have dropped for CU recently....probably due to Echinique becoming eligible. Right now, Rayvonte Rice is probably having a slightly better year than McDermott.

A lot of this comparison is apples to oranges, since McDermott has played mostly the 4, Rice the 2/3. Different supporting casts obviously.

Minutes per game

Rice............28.6
McDermott....28.2

points per game

Rice.............13.8
McDermott.....12.1

FG%

McDermott.....48.9%
Rice.............39.3%

(approx same number of attempts on the season)

FT%

McDermott.....76.2%
Rice.............72.7%

(but, Rice has been to the line almost 3 times as much as McDermott, while playing one less game).

3-pt%

Rice.............32.0%
McDermott.....21.9%

Rebounds per game

McDermott.......6.0
Rice...............4.4

Assists per game

Rice...............1.9
McDermott ......1.3

Steals per game

Rice...............1.4
McDermott.......0.4

Turnovers per game

McDermott.......1.9
Rice...............2.4

Blocks

Rice...............0.5
McDermott......0.2

I agree DUBulldog, it would seem to be a dead heat right now.

In reality it was Wragge getting healthy that caused a reduction in DM's PT, not Echenique's arrival. Now that Wragge is out indefinitely again, DM's PT should go back up again.

I am looking forward to see Rice in person. Are you coming to Omaha?

I won't be making the Omaha trip this year. Icy roads, nosebleed seats, and having to get up early tomorrow for work tomorrow convinced me not to go.
