And last year they only lost to Northwestern 31-96!

Chicago State is a steaming pile ... there is no *there* there and they are in a conference that looks like it was put together with baling wire. But anybody can play above the rim, so to speak, early in the season. Looking at the box, it appears ISU was letting a lot of guys get some real minutes.

Chicago State is TERRIBLE.

This year Indiana beat them by 49, Notre Dame by 27, and Central Michigan by 41.

They went 3-29 last year with 2 of the wins over Silver Lake College and East-West University. If anyone can tell me what state those two schools are in, you probably won a geography bee as a kid.

I worked at East-West University for 9 years as Director of Public Relations. It's in Chicago, on the Near South Side.

AnyHOO, Bradley won again. Beat a decent JSU team 74-65. Workmanlike and Wardle-esque. (I know I know, JSU is 0-3--but they put a scare in Penn St. before running out of gas and return their key guys from a 23-win team; picked 3d in OVC. I'll take it.)

Jax State is a hard team to play against. They have good athletes and play somewhat unpredictable on offense. They aren't in the Belmont/Murray category but probably the best of the next tier in the OVC.

Bradley will play good defense. Bradley is a lot more athletic than the past. Bradley will still struggle to score far too often and that will be the bug-a-boo all season. Big props to Koch Bar. Every BU fan has him riding the pine this year when Ari Boya becomes healthy. Koch had 20 points and 8 boards last night. He may look awkward but he's 6-11 with a soft touch and is a good defensive player.

Weren't the Ramblers the undisputed favorites. They are preseason picks to win the conference...

Not sure how you define undisputed favorites?

It's a shot to Pantgraph writer Jim Benson who used that line describing the Redbirds before the season.

He also can make free throws, as he is 11-15 from the line so far this year, 73%. He shot just under 70% for the year last year, but was over 75% in Valley play. You can't just hack him down low.

KB , Koch sounds like scotch. For those who need the bus slowed down. Is off to a great Jr season. No matter who starts and who plays back up that’s a nice one two down low with Boya. How bout Boya, Bar , Child’s, DLO, Brown for a line up? Future looks good too. #Thearrival #InWardlewetrust.
