Jake figured out how to avoid the bad starts of the last few seasons, schedule crap. Even WVU,SC are not seen as serious contenders in their leagues this year, and WSU was picked about 5th I think [ although they are much better than that I think]. But you still have to beat teams and UNI has done that while several other Valley potential leaders have stumbled early. For MSU, the schedule still offers some chance to make a resume but I don't see it happening, we just have too many kinks to work out and the Prim health issues have limited the availability of our most important addition. Unfortunately, I see MSU as similar to Bradley/UNI last year with our best ball coming late [ if it comes].

The Valley race still looks muddled, but Dec may offer some clarity; but if I was a betting man, I'd go with another jumbled mess and somebody like Drake was last year [Evansville perhaps] being a surprise contender among 4-5 others.

UNI still has a little meat on the bone. West Virginia next week and Colorado in December. Unfortunately, Grand Canyon fell off a cliff. The Old Dominion win is solid and Marshall should give some numbers help too.

The key for everybody is just to win games, the Bears could get a nice boost with a win this morning.

Don't see Marshall moving the needle as they're 1-3 with home losses to Toledo[ by 26] and Charleston [ by 10]. A couple years too late for them. I get what Jake did , he's got a relatively young yet veteran team he wanted to get off to a good start, so he dummied down from previous years. Smart on his part if he can go undefeated or just have one loss come Jan. Wins against say WVU and Colorado are still P-5 wins and catch some attention, but may not have as much numerical value this year. Also as we all know, scheduling sometimes is all about timing. Two years ago, games vs Marshall, WVU, WSU, would all be potential Q-1 wins. You schedule and then things change.

As far as the Bears, just haven't played well overall. We got a bit homered at Xavier, and the UALR loss isn't looking as much a disaster, although any home loss is bad, but we haven't looked organized or smooth in any facet to date. Again, I was one who did not pick the Bears to win this year, but expected a bit more than what I've seen. This week will provide some real measurement.

UNI is still undefeated. Last night we beat UTMartin by 20, riding the wave of Trae Burhow's 36 pts (8-11 from 3).

We face two big tests this coming week. (11/26 & 27 in Cancun). WV and WSU/SoCarolina. (Hopefully we get WSU!)

AJ Green - 33% overall and 27% from three on eight attempts a game. Dude certainly has the green light to shoot. Needs the green light to make a bit more.

6-0 despite our most talented player struggling. I'll take that as a big win. He's trying to do too much, but no doubt he will settle in and find his groove. Nonetheless the team looks alot better when he's on the court

Im guessing UNI was favored in all six games (not sure about Cornell. That had to be a pick em) :)

Also has 24 A to 15 TOs through 6 games. Had 71 A and 92 TO last year.

I'm glad to see he is turning it over less. That is a good ratio for a primary guard.

I had hopes that his shot selection would improve, too. Still waiting for that. His career shooting numbers are honestly not very good. He has to take better shots if he's going to get better.

He's a very poor pt guard. Rarely looks to get teammates the ball in good situations. Selfish or poorly coached?

I don't know what to think ; he's obviously talented as a scorer, but I watched the early part of a recent game and he took like 6 treys in the first 5 minutes, 3 in a row on one possession. It seems like Jake made a promise to dad and player to allow him to have the ball if he came to UNI. I see him as a shooting guard not a point and that UNI would be better if he handled it less. But if the deal was to promote his professional opportunities by being a pg then this is what we'll see; if it all works out and UNI is successful the next 3 years, then no one will question it. But time will tell.

I watched him in the Iowa High School state tournament his senior year. I think it was the semi-final that the first three possessions, he shot a three (one from beyond NCAA 3, one from the high school 3, and one with a foot still on the center logo (deep NBA). All three makes. Completely deflated the other team. You could see from their body language, three minutes in, they were thinking, "Why are we even here?" I think he was 49% from 3 for the year. And I watched him. NCAA distance, most of them double teamed all year.

I agree that he's not earning his shots in games at this point, but I think there is the belief that the accuracy will return and he will become a ridiculous shooter. He is improving his assist/driving game. Even though his 3s aren't falling, his +/- is sloping upward this year. If he starts hitting these threes, this team will have a very high upside.

I’m sorry, but this is ridiculous. That is not how UNI or Coach Jake runs its basketball program.

AJ Green is a really good basketball player and a great shooter. His shooting % will get much better.
