Budget shortage (one year void of projected March Madness revenue)
+ Unstable financial market
+ Big time donors losing portfolio money
= Slow carousel

The big winner of coronavirus might be hot seat coaches.

Knew someone would take a chance on him. Disgusting but look at Sampson at Houston and Pearl at Auburn. Winning big so boosters, donors and schools are.happy. Should be in jail along with Arizona coach and a.few.others. Rich get richer at all costs.

In their shoes (Iona) this is a risk worth taking. This is a catholic private school in the MAAC (NET 24) with a solid record under retiring (health) coach Tim Cluess who will remain as an adviser. Looks like Pitino will make slightly less than Cluess did (million and change) and may want to go out with a cleansed reputation.

Obviously this program will be under a recruiting microscope and with few returning contributors and a 2020 NET of 224 he will be starting almost totally from scratch with a court that seats 2500.

Iona knows the risks and is not a "win at any cost" program so I'm wishing them luck.

Such a stupid hire by Iona. They just put the NCAA on the clock. There's a chance they don't complete the investigation and roll out punishments by the start of next season, but Pitino will surely be hit with a show cause/suspension and the NCAA will now drop the hammer on Iona.

Pitino can recruit to Iona on reputation alone.....cheating not required. He will do very well there and run a clean program leading to rehabilitated reputation and a name school position.....then the cheating resumes.

I agree with this. He won't need to cheat to recruit/win at Iona.

The problem is the NCAA will never give him or Iona a chance to do so. In the immortal words of Tark: "The NCAA was so mad at Kentucky that they gave Cleveland State another year of probation." It's one thing to let a school like Louisville get away with cheating and snubbing their nose at the NCAA; it's another to let Iona get away with that. Show causes & postseason bans are in Iona's immediate future.

My quick reading of "show cause" suggests that Iona in theory could be penalized just because of the hire but I can see no logic for it being done. Everything that Pitino does will be studied under a microscope and everything that he mutters in his sleep will be recorded and reviewed by a full time NCAA committee. So? Risk vs reward?

As for the man himself he is 68 years old with a estimated net worth of $45,000,000. It is hard for me to imagine a man in that position rehabbing himself just so that he can get back to the top and resume cheating.

OK I have never met him and have no idea how his mind functions. Seemingly he is like some others in government in that they order things accomplished without wanting to know any details. But! What will this man want written on his tombstone?
