We went from being #3 in the nation, with everyone thinking Nick Hill is THE GUY. We have a meltdown to finish the season. All of a sudden Nick Hill's play calling is awful and costing us games. Then we look good in the playoffs to get to the sweet 16 right now. Everyone is happy again. I see this...we went 10+ years with no playoffs. Now have been in 2 straight Sweet 16s (or better).

Our basketball is no different. Things just aren't going as smoothly as we expected. But this is college basketball isn't it? Chaos is what it is all about, and SIU isn't immune to it either. Mullins will be fine.

Well said, and agree. I want to see the Salukis win as much as any fan or alum (in my case). However, I don't critique coaches who have played the game, and have been there. I especially don't slam 18-22 year old players (kids) that represent the alma mater I love. It's easy to sit behind a computer, or at a actual sporting event and second guess. Folks forget that Mullins was never a head coach at any level, so he has much learning to do as well. It will happen. Go Dawgs!

So you didn't slam Lowery at all? Find that hard to believe. Nobody is slamming the players. The head coach recruits and coaches the players and the head coach is getting paid nicely to take criticism when things go wrong.

I was.unhappy with Lowery, but refused to bust on him on a sports message board. It was also year 7-8 when he rightfully deserved to be ridiculed. Mullins is six games into his third season. You referenced his salary, and seem upset. Are you personally donating to SIU athletics to help pay this salary? If so, you have a legitimate complaint, if not, it's none of your business what he's paid. Hinson milked SIU bigtime, and left Bryan with a rebuild as well. Trust the rebuild.

Illinois taxpayers having no business questioning what public employees are paid is a slippery slope for obvious reasons. That being said, I trust the rebuild for now.

The rebuild is basically over. The guys you're going to win with are on the current roster. They have 1 commit for next year, Cade Hornecker who is unlikely to make a huge impact despite his recruiting ranking prestige. They'll likely bring in a guard transfer that can handle the ball and run the offense and move Jones to the 2. But the current roster is the team that they're going to have to win with.

I trust Mullins and want him as SIU head coach but if they don't take a step up this year, the future is beginning to look a little bleak. Next year should have NCAA Tournament expectations from everyone.

Agree that this is the team we'll have moving forward. Keep in mind that like Coach Hill, Mullins comes in with zero head coaching college experience. coach Hill made the playoffs in year five. Reaching the post season may take a bit longer than anticipated. IMO there's a learning curve to be navigated first. My guess is that this team will progress during the season, and will be playing its best basketball by seasons end. Let's get it started tonight.

I believe SIU also has a couple of redshirts who just "may" be able to help this bleak situation. I think some of us need to wake up and smell the coffee.

Ebube and Wonders might be good down the line but they'd likely be anchors of Mullins' 2nd wind of recruits. Excited about Ebube in particular, have heard good things.
