Here is the bad thing about that. It plays right into the hands of the power 5 . Eventually they say, cut the conferences to 10....then maybe even 6 and now you have 1aa basketball. The NCAA tourney is what it is because everyone loves the upsets. If Murray was still in the OVC and they cut to the top 15 conferences Murray would be left out. Same with Winthrop, Wofford , UT Chatanooga etc etc.....overall I don't think its a great idea. You can still go to 96 teams and keep the lower conferences in.

I doubt the P5 would be on board with an expansion to 96. There's no way that benefits them it would disproportionately benefit the mids. The most I could see is like 80 but we might only get 72.

It absolutely benefits them in a smaller DI. More games to sell to CBS/Turner and they'll all be guaranteed 11 or 12 bids.
