This is just step 1. Eventually, there will be a fourth conference after the B1G, SEC, and Big12 full of the best from each of the remaining conferences and they'll get access to the CFP playoffs much like the G5 does now. You'll have a spot if you're the highest ranked team and are in the top 25 of the CFP rankings. I say go get it. Prove yourself. Then the rest of the teams that didnt make it will join up with the likes of a MVFC and such. The money still won't be great. Won't be over $5-million per team but they'll have access to the CFP.

Ten years ago those schools were Sun Belt, but they are now CUSA and getting ready to go join Wichita's league in a couple of years.

This is the current Sun Belt:
Arkansas State
Louisiana Lafayette
Louisiana Monroe
Texas State
Appalachian State
Georgia State
Georgia Southern
Coastal Carolina
Troy
South Alabama
James Madison (joining)
Southern Mississippi (joining)
Marshall (joining)
Old Dominion (joining)

Sun Belt is the 8th best football conference both on the field and in fan support. Whenever the MVC is the 8th best basketball conference, we’re here throwing a party.

Appalachian St, Coastal Carolina, & the Ragin’ Cajuns all have had top-25 teams since 2019. Southern Miss and Marshall have storied histories with a few top-25 seasons as well.

The B1G and SEC are about to get $80-100-million per team. Rumors say if the Big 12 adds the four corner schools then their media rights deal would be around $40-million per team. So, yes, the Big 12 will still be around to make a Power 3 once the Pac-12 and ACC are raided. Then, a new conference will be started made up of the best of the rest. Looking at current low level media rights deals I'd say the contract won't be for more than $5-million per team but they will have automatic access assuming they meet the criteria. Just like the current G5 and New Year's bowl games deal the new conference will have an automatic spot in a future 16 (after 12 it will go to 16) team CFP playoff if they are the highest ranked team from their conference and they are in the top 20 in CFP rankings. That conference could look like this.

*You could make a case for Missouri State now in a 24-team conference. Or, South Dakota State and Illinois State, as well. Therefore, the answer is yes. If an FCS team puts the required money forward to have a product that proves themselves on the field then it still makes sense to jump up.

*Some teams chosen because of program and some chosen due to market.

You didnt think the next up were going to accept joining the FCS, right? No, they're going to try everything else before that.

Maybe, I could see it capped at 3 conferences. If SEC and Big 10 go to 20 teams, the third conference will have 20 teams too. If they go 24 teams, it is hard to fathom the bigs being more than 72 teams. There is a reason they want to pull away. They don't want to drag along everyone else.

I think 64 teams is the right final number when the pullout happens with four 16-team conferences, but I can imagine 72 teams being a final number as well with either three 24 teamers or four 18 teamers. This would allow for a 16-team college "Super Bowl playoff" and everyone else getting a bowl game no matter what the record.

That is 8 out of 10 as opposed to 8 out of 32. One is in the top 25%. The other is in the bottom 25%.

Not actually true; there are 14 FCS conferences as well, so 8 out of 24.

The MVFC is usually rated above the Sun Belt, MAC, and CUSA most seasons. Then throw in MVC basketball to the mix and it's always higher than the SBC. If you think about it, Missouri State would really be spending more money just to drop down competitively.
