What percentage of that $72M is going directly to UNC/Clemson/FSU? 85% 90%?

Imagine having the alumni/donor base to not need any revenue for 7 years AND be able to make a giant step up in competition/class. Good for you SMU.

Now combine that with the actual performance of SMU's football team versus AAC and CUSA competition. SMU is the rich kid who gets into the fraternity so they can fund the parties, then stands on the wall wearing two polo shirts with the collars popped and raising their red Solo cup to everyone who walks by and glances their way.

ACC admits Cal, Stanford, & SMU. SMU joins first on July 1, 2024. However, Cal and the Fighting Condoleezzas will follow on August 2, 2024.

With Washington State and Oregon State possibly heading to the Mountain West I can't help but wonder if Gonzaga finally makes the jump. It'd be a much better league than the WCC especially without BYU that even perhaps gets a little stronger and Gonzaga also becomes less geographically isolated when accompanied by the Cougars and Beavers. This I think is probably the path forward for Gonzaga because it is the best mix of quality of competition and reasonable travel. The Big East is ideal but unless they're at least adding SLU at some point that travel is just brutal for a non-football league even with the higher media payout even with SLU it's really bad. I also wondered if St Mary's would come too but I can't help but think they would appreciate a free pass to the tournament every year and I am not sure if they would fare as well with the increased travel given their budget which I believe is not nearly the size of Gonzaga's. If they'd come too one has to wonder whether Wichita State would look west even with the AAC exit fee.

The AAC is considering replacing SMU with Army. That’ll be great for their NET.

Army will be football only if it happens. If they add a basketball counterpart my guess is they will look to the A-10 to see if any of the likes of VCU Dayton or SLU are willing to jump for a higher media payout a national schedule and better exposure in addition to similar or better competition. I could see SLU possibly being interested on geographic grounds and VCU based on institutional fit though my guess is that all three of these programs are going to wait on the Big East first and foremost. I am honestly surprised we aren't hearing more about the Big East expanding with the P4 (especially the Big 10 and Big XII) getting much stronger in basketball. Even the SEC should be better with the additions of Texas and Oklahoma. Maybe the Big East is waiting to see what happens with the PAC\MW because if it goes the way of the Mountain West, and the conference then becomes enticing enough to lure Gonzaga by giving them regional rivals improving their schedule and even slightly strengthening the conference, the Big East will likely have no choice but to do something.

https://www.espn.com/college-sports/sto ... int-pac-12

WSU/OSU have filed a lawsuit seeking an emergency restraining order against George Kliavkoff and the Pac-12. Despite 10 members announcing departures for other conferences, WSU/OSU are left powerless because somehow those 10 schools still claim voting power. One of those 10 presidents warned WSU/OSU, "9 Members can declare the fate of the Conference at any time." This would not only mean those 10 presidents can dissolve the Pac-12 against WSU/OSU's will, but also divide the Pac-12 assets between 12 schools instead of leaving them to WSU/OSU.

The essence of Washington State and Oregon State's concerns, if the league's 12 schools formally meet, is that the current members could vote to dissolve or evenly distribute the remaining assets. Washington State and Oregon State consider themselves the only board members and are seeking to survey their options moving forward. They pointed to the conference's bylaws, which state that any notice of withdrawal from the league means a school "automatically cease(s) to be a member of the Pac-12 Board of Directors and shall cease to have the right to vote on any matter."

The meeting was scheduled, according to the legal filings, after Washington State president Kirk Schulz, the chair of the Pac-12 board of directors, declined to call a board meeting after a telephone conversation with Kliavkoff on or around Aug. 29. Schulz feared that Kliavkoff "would allow the withdrawing universities' former Board representatives to vote on a number of matters, even though they no longer have the right to vote on any matter," according to the legal documents.

In a supporting document, Schulz says he needs "urgent intervention" on whether the departing schools can hold a seat on the Pac-12 board and vote.

"The Pac-12 Conference and the Pac-12 Conference Board of Directors cannot resolve this dispute through internal means," Schulz says in the filing. "At its core, this is a dispute over who has the authority to act on behalf of the Pac-12 Conference. Only judicial intervention can resolve this dispute."

The filing includes a comment from one departing school, which is not named: "One representative from a departing Pac-12 member stated his view just two days ago that '9 Members can declare the fate of the Conference at any time.'"

The Pac-12 has seen 10 members leave since last summer, starting when UCLA and USC announced they would join the Big Ten in 2024. The complaint points out that the board seats and voting rights of those schools were immediately rescinded.

The "10" vote to dissolve the conference so that the Pac-14 (MWC) doesn't have autonomy....... Not sure how departing members have voting power still, but the Pac has to be one of the (if not the) most poorly ran conference in college sports history. Everything they could do wrong, they do wrong.

Once they overplayed their TV hand (Pac 12 Network)...it was only a matter of time.

They thought there was interest, there was not. No TV $, no p5 league.

I was going to say: I didn’t think it was possible for anyone in college athletics to be more incompetent than the Pac-12, but then I read this morning Mel Tucker blew a $95 million load….literally.
