I like Jim Les. That said, it was time for him to go. Bradley is one of thise schoolsin the Valley where expectations are high every year. They carry a certain amount of respect, desrved or not, in any arena they play.
Whether people want to accept it or not, salary does dictate expectations and Jim Les was the highest paid in the Valley not counting the very high salaries paid to McDermott, Marshall and Lowery. If Lowery wasn't at a university that is absolutely cash strapped, he would have been gone a year sooner (and rightfully so).
With the salary he received, the ammenities available and the budget at Bradley, Les should have done better than finishing fourth, at least once. With all the resources, he couldn't do it. Injuries plagued Les's teams, but injuries plague every team. The injury card will get you a pass here and there, it just seemed that every year, it was an injury. It was most likely that Jim Les is an average coach, with good recruiting skills and fantastic personality.
When I look at teams that could really make the Valley a great, tough league, Bradley is one of the top schools on the list. With the change, Bradley could be down the next few years, but if they get a good coach, which I believe they will, they will be a team to recon with in the not too distant future.
Everybody liked Jim Les but no coach feared playing his Braves. I will miss Jim Les, but it was time.
