I don't know if Missouri State is going to be in or not. If forced, I would probably say no because I just don't have the confidence in the committee giving a mid-major ANY benefit of the doubt. They always seem to find the information/stats that justify including more BcS schools and excluding mids. Once it was RPI, then it was "quality wins", then it was "wins over tournament teams", then "no bad losses", then SOS, etc, etc...

But.... If a MSU fan is trying to tout the win over UALR as a "win over a tournament team" please note that the Trojans had to win 4 straight games to get into the tournament after finishing the regular season 3 games UNDER .500. They will probably be playing the SWAC or MEAC champion in one of the "opening round" games.

Of course, should MSU make it, they will likely be there, too, as one of the last at-larges.

You still have a point. The year George Mason went on their run was one of the worst ever watched. That I do know because it has been brought up every single time when talking about getting more mid-majors into the tournament.

Just because the blowhards on ESPN Radio say it repeatedly doesn't make it so.

2006 was Geo. Mason's year. The first column is average viewers for all games, the second is for the regional finals (Elite 8), the third is for the championship game. The championship game was not high-rated that year (I didn't even watch that one), but it was the 3rd highest rating for an Elite 8 weekend in the decade.

Since we are talking about NCAA Bracket Travesty, what does anyone think of the likelihood that the NCAA assigns the champions from both the MEAC and SWAC into the opening round games? They have always avoided putting both of the champions from the HBUC in the play-in games prior to this to avoid charges of racism, will they still be able to avoid it if there aren't a couple more UALR-190 RPI-teams getting upset automatics?

If teams in the conference would schedule better it would help their RPI's and get them some good wins. Not only that the conference RPI would go up by default through all the teams having RPI's due to stronger opponents. The Valley is 14th, or something like that, in RPI right now. No bitching about not getting two bids this year.

As for your comment about the general public cheering for mid-majors, Butlers run and the championship made last years tourneys one of the lowest rated if not the lowest rated.

.

Maybe somebody has already corrected this, but I couldn't let it go. The ratings for the Butler Championship game were the highest for any chamionship game since 1999. The ratings were 31% higher for that game than the previous years game between North Carolina and Michigan state.

SWOMO,

Four best wins:
#61 WSU x2
#85 Indiana St.
#108 UNI

Record against possible at-large teams: 0-1
Record against RPI 1-50: 0-1
OOC SOS: 165

There just isn't anything there for the selection committee which says MSU belongs in the field.

Go play someone and then call me, they are in the NIT.

No, no there isn't. But there wasn't anything in 1999 for us or for Air Force in 2006. Strange things have happened before...
