Elgin basically echoes what I have been trying to say to all you expansion nerds these last two years--a) media markets (!) hardly matter to leagues like the MVC, they are only important to the B10's of the world vying for those huge TV contracts which we don't have and never will have, And b) expansion (!) for the sake of expansion is silly--if we bring someone in, it has to be a good program that has a chance to bring NCAA money in.

You mean a school like Butler? A school that's right on the edge of the current footprint and obviously willing to change leagues?

I don't think it would have been terribly difficult to find one more to join Butler and come to the Valley. Missed that opportunity.

I remember back in 1995 when the WAC was formed.

The WAC formed in the early 60's.

Correct. The WAC was the first DI 16-team "super conference" when, in 1996, it added the old Southwest Conference left-behinds, Big West power UNLV along with San Jose State, and Tulsa from the MVC.

The league's members couldn't agree on much of anything and was doomed pretty much from the start.

In 1999, BYU, Utah, UNLV, New Mexico, Colorado State, Air Force, Wyoming and San Diego State left and formed the Mountain West, adding TCU in 2001.
