You mean a school like Butler? A school that's right on the edge of the current footprint and obviously willing to change leagues?

I don't think it would have been terribly difficult to find one more to join Butler and come to the Valley. Missed that opportunity.

Correct. The WAC was the first DI 16-team "super conference" when, in 1996, it added the old Southwest Conference left-behinds, Big West power UNLV along with San Jose State, and Tulsa from the MVC.

The league's members couldn't agree on much of anything and was doomed pretty much from the start.

In 1999, BYU, Utah, UNLV, New Mexico, Colorado State, Air Force, Wyoming and San Diego State left and formed the Mountain West, adding TCU in 2001.
