I'm sorry "2livewu, but the preference for WBB over NCAA baseball isn't just a Springfield and Knoxville thing, it's pretty much a national statement. Even in the Valley alone, where the average attendance for all WBB games is 1,897 per game, consider the following;
* only 1 Valley baseball team averages better than that
* but 6 WBB programs average above that

Then look nationally where;
* nationally only 31 baseball prgrams average better than that, but 76 WBB programs average better than that
* and as CG4PREZ pointed out ESPN treats WBB like a much bigger deal than college baseball

As I indicated, I doubt it's very long before WVB overtakes college baseball in fan interest as they are rapidly advancing their fan base; right now 29 baseball programs average better than 2,000 a game [ 1 in the MVC] while 16 WVB programs do [ 2 in the MVC] . Just the way the numbers are evolving.

Maybe it is time for the individual sports considered for All Sports Trophy have a weight factor that should be used in reaching a final winner of the trophy.

I'll answer the question. WSU will probably win another All-Sports Trophy. With upper-division finishes in basketball, volleyball, baseball, track and golf, that pretty much cinches it. The Excellence created by Jim Schaus lives on.

Thank you for answering! It is appreciated!

WSU is going to win this "Award" based on sports that no one cares about, which is why this means less than nothing.

It's the All Sports Trophy. Not the Cool Sports Trophy.

No it's the "some of the sports, you pick what you want to compete in and we'll ignore the others trophy".

Why would WSU have a women's diving team when they don't need one? You guys only have one because of football. Perhaps it would be better for a school like MSU to drop some of its suck drainers and invest that money in other programs. I dunno.

Again, maybe this should be brought up to the person in charge of this stuff if you don't like how it's counted. It's been this way for at least the last 25 years.

Don't blame anybody but the conference office for winning this award.

I don't have a problem with WSU winning it; like I said if you are gonna play sports the idea is to be good at all of them. We won a number of times in the mid 90's, and as with WSU now, the key was women's sports. I just think if the league sponsors a sport and a championship in it, then it should be part of the All-Sports tabulation for every team. We have several we don't participate in as well and would need to be held to the same standard. Then you have an "All Sports Championship" that reflects every University's performance against the league across the full spectrum of sponsored athletics.

And why would a University drop a sport if it can find a way to offer it; isn't the goal to provide as many quality opportunities for as many student athletes as possible ?

TItles are fine and all, but it goes more based on finish.

I think WSU clinched it this past weekend and MSU clinched 2nd.
