It's definitely going to be a tough game no matter how you slice it. Tech has size inside and I'm still not convinced that State has the interior bodies to match up with anyone with a potent inside game outside of Walker...and even he has been hit and miss. We won't be able to take quick, stupid shots in this game and get away with it. Tech is shooting almost 56% per game through three games. I don't care if you are playing Little Sisters of the Poor, 56% is good. They also run a fairly deep rotation - like most teams - early in the year.
The one place that I think State has an advantage is in defense. Tech is averaging 20 turnovers a game against some ... interesting ... competition. Our backcourt, especially McWhorter and Odum, need to create some easy buckets off solid perimeter defense. Our offense isn't clicking yet, and if we can't get some confidence through points off turnovers it could be a rough day.
Three key players for State today:
McWhorter - we need his shut down defense today. We also need him to create some offense off the dribble. He has great handles, but often seems tentative to drive. Take some pressure off Odum.
Gant and Kitchell - Walker and Richard are going to get theirs. When they come out and the 2nd unit comes in, it's time for these guys who were touted as high major prospects to step up. Each has shown flashes of great things, but it's definitely time to take it to the next level.
IF State can put together a full game for the first time this year, they win, IMO...but it will be a close game. If they put together a good half - like against Ball State - they lose.
