Not really. There's one major school less than 200 miles away that has one.

OK only division 1. Division 3 major?

SLU. The Billiken is essentially the same thing, except it doesn't have wings.

Really? I wouldn't trade our roster, coaches or facilities with ISU Red. Not even close. We'll see about the mascot.

I'm not sure why people are upset over it (except for the ISU Red fans). Having a really weird, non-generic mascot is good for business. See: Stanford tree, Western Kentucky blob, UC Santa Cruz banana. I think this is a good idea. Hopefully they don't cheap out on the costume though.

A Billiken is a fad toy created by a Kansas City art teacher nearly 100 years ago. Basically the Tickle Me Elmo of 1908.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billiken
The Billiken was a charm doll created by an American art teacher and illustrator, Florence Pretz of Kansas City, Missouri, who is said to have seen the mysterious figure in a dream.[1] In 1908, she obtained a design patent on the ornamental design of the Billiken,[2] who was elephant-like with pointed ears, a mischievous smile and a tuft of hair on his pointed head. His arms were short and he was generally sitting with his legs stretched out in front of him. To buy a Billiken was said to give the purchaser luck, but to have one given would be better luck.[3] The image was copyrighted and a trademark was put on the name. After a few years of popularity, like other fad toys, the Billiken faded into obscurity. The Billiken should not be confused with baby-like Kewpie figures that debuted in the December 1909 Ladies' Home Journal.

Today, the Billiken is the official mascot of Saint Louis University and St. Louis University High School, both Jesuit institutions located in St. Louis.

Our last five are still collectively better than your starting lineup.

I am proud of my anthropomorphic wheat, WU Shock, let's hope the Bardo administration can keep the gluten free lobby at bay for a couple more years.
