It was the College Division. However, the teams that they beat were: 1959 - Aces beat Missouri State, 1960 - Aces beat Chapman, 1964 - Aces beat Akron, 1965 - Aces beat Southern Illinois (that was back when Walt Frazier played for them), 1971- Aces beat Old Dominion. One of those years the Aces beat John Wooden's UCLA team. Has any of the other Valley teams won a National Championship at any level? A lot of the Valley teams were playing in Division II during that time period.

Yes.

Yes, there have been a few. Loyola won the NCAA in '63. Bradley won a few NIT Championships when it was considered the premier post-season tournament. Drake, Wichita State and of course Loyola all made the Final Four. SIU won a NIT Championship with Walt Frazier....and of course, what I consider the greatest Valley season in my lifetime, the 78-79 Indiana State team that went undefeated to the NCAA Championship game.

Tradition is very subjective, and hard to determine with any real accuracy. As you can see, there is a lot in the Valley. I don't know where we should actually be, and probably not #1, but certainly nowhere near the bottom either.....unless we are only looking at the Marty years.

When looking at tradition within the context of how it makes a coaching job attractive, I would say that Division II success and success in the previous century does't make as much of a difference as things that happened lately. From a recruit's perspective, Evansville's D2 success is meaningless. Bradley's stuff from the 50s and 60s is meaningless. Even stuff that happened in the 90s doesn't mean much.

However from a donor base perspective, that stuff does carry more weight I suppose.

A list of coaches that are in line for P6 jobs. Included are Loyola's Porter Moser, and Illinois State's Dan Muller. Muller is literally the last name on that list which (arguably) includes the top MM programs in the country. Feel Buffalo's coach will be gone after this seas and most other hires will be P5 assistance including Luke Yaklich(former Redbird assistant who has is the brain behind what Michigan has been able to do the past two years). Mussleman at Nevada is one to watch too. Moser and Muller will both be in the MVC next season.

Musselman seems like the perfect guy for UCLA to me. Though I think that's a job that Gregggggggg is going to go after hard.
