I understand the inclination to think that completely open access for all should be the policy for all institutions. Sunlight everywhere!! But if (assuming you don't agree with me that Reynolds is anti-BU) some future reporter publishes nothing but hit pieces, why wouldn't you want *something* at the ready to counter? Carrots and sticks. Why do you have to accept everything said about you and Bradley at face value and smile and take it??

If the “hit peices” are facts, then that’s the price you pay to have media. Otherwise just use your PR department.

Could have been what triggered their run. I'd argue that piece was more important than any player or coach. They should pay him half of Wardle's contract. I wish more reporters would blast the team they're covering if needed...ISU-r

That's actually a very good point, and one I considered. I bet dollars to donuts when Wardle saw the "Fire Brian Wardle?" headline, his motivation went through the roof! And that's about the exact point Bradley's season turned around. Maybe there is a love-hate relationship with the PJS. Both sides need each other!

Well everyone is making nice now. Chris Reynolds the AD flew home this morning from selection comittee to address it. He addressed crowd at selection show event and apologized. Wardle did too. Hopefully its water under the bridge now.

I wonder if an apology would have been forthcoming without all the negative hoopla surrounding this? I'm betting not.

If you don't like his reporting make your interviews short and curt, be polite, but don't cut him off. That said, it's Wardle's prerogative who has access to his team and players. There's no inherent right to it being a newspaper reporter. This isn't the White House with public employees. It's a private institution.

Sure what I pointed out were facts. He could have also mentioned Bradley's 1950 pointshaving scandal. That would be a fact too. But when you cherrypick facts that paint the program in a negative light, people aren't going to like it. Especially the head coach.

If there's a negative fact, he'll report it. If there's a positive fact, he might. That's my beef in a nutshell. I guess you'd have to read this stuff for over a decade to begin to see where I'm coming from. And I know journalism well. I know well the old adage "comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable," but again, that really doesn't apply to beat reporting for midmajor basketball.

Im sorry you read the PJ Star with such a negative pre conceived notion. I've read this stuff for as long or longer than you. Bradley wants to be bigtime only when it suits them. If you want to be bigtime, you don't ban reporters you don't like. Plain and simple.

Heck no.

Once this hit national, and once the Charley Steiner piece came out it then became a University issue - not a Bradley basketball or Bradley athletics issue.

The university President was PISSED...with a capital P. Forcing Chris Reynolds to come back to campus from being sequestered in Indy with the NCAA Selection Committee was a bold move. And it wasn't done to "congratulate" him on a job well done.

President Roberts put the hammer down big time. This embarrassed the whole university.

If Reynolds is "anti BU" what beat writer should he aspire to be more like who is more positive about the team he/she follows?
