I know Barnes struggled a lot last year but if he can figure out he doesn't need to score 20-plus to help his team, there's no reason the Sycs shouldn't be in the mix to avoid Thursday. A starting five of Barnes, Key, Neese, LaRavia and Kessinger sounds pretty competitive to me, and there also appears to be the makings of a decent bench, as best I can tell.

If Indiana State can't flirt with an upper-half finish this year, Lansing will certainly have earned his walking papers.

Something will have gone horribly wrong in Terre Haute if Christopher Agbo isn't starting.

From the way it looks so far, no team will be a Thursday team.

I guess he could supplant Kessinger; neither would be big scorers, but then again they might not need a lot of interior scoring with some of the other pieces they have.

Agbo averaged 6 and 6 last year in JUCO ball but looks like he'll be a load, physically.

They need to just get rid of Thursday. Personally I wouldn't mind seeing the tournament get condensed down to 6 teams. 4 vs 5 and 3 vs 6 on Friday. 4/5 vs 1 and 3/6 vs 2 Saturday. Championship on Sunday. I think that would definitely help our chances of becoming a 2 bid league again. Besides if you can't finish in the top 6 do you really deserve to make the trip to St Louis and compete for an NCAA bid? I personally don't think so.

Yeah, we're not the Horizon League.

As long as Lansing remains our coach we'll flirt more with the bottom 3 than the top half, he's certainly been the crutch that has been holding ISU back these past several years. The common denominator

Nah. A thursday team hasn’t won since the Brewers were in the American League and Roger Maris owned the HR record.

My thought is that eliminating Thursday teams helps your SOS if you are a 1 or 2 seed. Just playing crap programs hurts your at-large chances whether you win or lose.

Predictions anyone?

I'm saying first team is:

Darrell Brown
AJ Green
Tyreke Key
Tulio Da Silva
Cameron Krutwig

(This is what I think it will be, I would vote to have Elijah Childs and DeAndre Williams on instead of DB and Tyreke Key).

Standings:

1. MSU
2. Bradley
3. UNI
4. Loyola
5. Evansville
6. Indiana State
7. Valpo
8. Drake
9. Illinois State
10. Southern Illinois

In all honesty, if your end goal is to 1)have your best team earn the auto bid, 2)to reduce the chances of a lower seed from winning the outbid, or 3) have your highest seed refrain from playing low rated opponents, the logical conclusion is to do away with the tournament altogether.

Now that is non realistic as the tournament is a revenue generator and is also a great bit of publicity.
