Jake figured out how to avoid the bad starts of the last few seasons, schedule crap. Even WVU,SC are not seen as serious contenders in their leagues this year, and WSU was picked about 5th I think [ although they are much better than that I think]. But you still have to beat teams and UNI has done that while several other Valley potential leaders have stumbled early. For MSU, the schedule still offers some chance to make a resume but I don't see it happening, we just have too many kinks to work out and the Prim health issues have limited the availability of our most important addition. Unfortunately, I see MSU as similar to Bradley/UNI last year with our best ball coming late [ if it comes].

The Valley race still looks muddled, but Dec may offer some clarity; but if I was a betting man, I'd go with another jumbled mess and somebody like Drake was last year [Evansville perhaps] being a surprise contender among 4-5 others.

Jake didn’t “figure” anything out regarding the schedule. UNI has routinely scheduled up better than anybody in the league. As you know, its almost impossible to schedule well as a mid major now, and sometimes you just have to take what you can get. The schedule is still good, just not as tough as it has been, and most of that is out of UNI’s control.

It seems like Jake made a promise to dad and player to allow him to have the ball if he came to UNI. I see him as a shooting guard not a point and that UNI would be better if he handled it less. But if the deal was to promote his professional opportunities by being a pg then this is what we'll see; if it all works out and UNI is successful the next 3 years, then no one will question it. But time will tell.

I’m sorry, but this is ridiculous. That is not how UNI or Coach Jake runs its basketball program.

AJ Green is a really good basketball player and a great shooter. His shooting % will get much better.

I agree with the first statement, but I'm still waiting to see the evidence that he is a great shooter. (And just to be clear, I don't mean that I want to watch him make six 3s at Gentile this year. I'd prefer he show it during non-con. :) )

Back to the way-too-early rankings!

How KenPom has MVC teams as of this morning. Obviously KenPom relies heavy on data and there isn't a ton of data at this point so these rankings are subject to change quite a bit. Hope to see a few MVC teams win their MTEs. Would love to have multiple MVC teams in the KenPom top 100 entering conference play.

99. UNI
105. Loyola
124. Bradley
127. Drake
137. Evansville
146. Missouri State
164. Indiana State
189. Valpo
204. Illinois State
237. SIU

And Evansville drops to 158 after getting smoked by a bad ECU team, rough loss.

Yes a rough loss but ECU is not as bad as their KenPom rating. Seven JUCOS and 4 freshmen added to this team's roster. The conference season will be the telling point for both ECU and UE.

I mean other than recently beating EU they haven’t beaten anyone even halfway decent. They lost to Navy, and went 10-20 the past two years. Yes they have a lot of new pieces, but their KenPom ranking makes sense to me. Could they turn it around as the season goes on and the players grow more comfortable together? Yes, but I doubt thats going to happen considering they’re in the AAC and will be playing even tougher opponents.

Blers is correct. SMU is better than their ranking. ECU is not a good team. One we should have beaten, let alone not got smoked by.

Can I change my re-rank on Evansville? At this point Illinois State and MSU are looking like the top teams, but it looks like another year in the Valley without an elite-level team.

Evansville is who we thought they were....getting hammered again today. KY game just a major fluke. Back to thursday for the aces, but the conference thanks you for the biggest win of the year anyway

That's a really bad loss. GW went into the game on a 3 game losing streak to American, Morgan State and UMKC. Woof.
