UNI Fans concerned? Do you feel if Jake leaves, Kyle Green gets the gig, at least in an interim setting?

It's definitely one of a handful of jobs that would make sense for Jake. I wouldn't fault him for taking it if offered. And I'll be very glad if he decides to stay or isn't offered the job.

And yes, I think it's virtually certain Kyle Green would have first stab at the job if Jake leaves. Now, if both he AND AJ wanted to follow Jake to Minnesota? That would be the nightmare scenario.

I hadn't really considered Jake for the gig in Minnesota, but he would be a great value hire. Would the fans up there be happy though? Oftentimes, the donors speak loudly and they might want a sexy name.

I agree, but the longer that job stays open the less likely the Gophers can get a "sexy" hire. That's why it's starting to be a bit of a concern with Jake. Would he take the job knowing the boosters wouldn't be that excited about him? Maybe, but if it was me I'd want a decent buyout to account for that.

Ben Jacobson: Man, I 've got it made at UNI, but a chance to coach in the BIG10 and not be at a mid-major my entire career is awful tempting.

That would be a relevant comment if we're talking about the period immediately after the 2010 season. He had been head coach just 5 years and was considered up and coming like the two you mentioned.

Maybe after 15 years as head coach and 20 total at the same school he's open to a new kind of challenge. I don't know. I hope not.

It appears the fans on the Minnesota message board are not pleased with any serious candidate for their job.

Kyle Green has been a head coach twice before (D2 Lewis and D3 UW Eau Clare) and was absolutely miserable both times and that's without the extra media, public and private commitments that come with a DI job. He was given the 'Associate Head Coach' title as a quick nod and a little pay bump for getting AJ to stay home, I don't believe it was ever intended as a 'coach in waiting' situation.

I believe he would certainly be in the running if he wanted the job but I don't think he'd be a slam dunk, no search process type hire.

If Jake truly wants the Minnesota job, and I can't imagine that he doesn't as it's not like UNI has any extra money laying around to pay him more, it wouldn't surprise me if part of that process has been him ensuring that he delivers AJ too.

BREAKING: Minnesota is expected to hire Xavier assistant Ben Johnson as its next head coach, sources told ESPN.

My eyes went right to the Ben J.....

Spoiler alert, not Jake. HAHAH. I think Jake would be fine staying at UNI forever. He's loved in that community.

That was a fun convo for a few hours.

Ben Johnson was an assistant at UNI for a few years.

Maybe Jake was just giving a reference LOL

And you're right. Jake is pretty beloved by this university and community.

Appears to be some smoke around a Kyle Green to Iowa State rumor to join the new staff down there as they are placing a huge priority on recruiting Iowa and Kyle is about the best there is at it.

As a UNI fan, I'm not sure this fan base can deal with losing another generational talent because of their father.

Iowa State says they'll have their staff hired in the next 7-10 days. Buckle up.
