I'm not saying that there is a huge gap between the MVC and SoCon THIS SEASON, but traditionally there is. When I say traditionally, I mean every season except this one and 2019.
Just because I am curious... If the two conferences played a conference challenge like the ACC-Big Ten Challenge, how do you think that would go?

The SoCon would likely win more games this year or certainly keep it even. Most all of the major computer rankings have been neck and neck the last few seasons actually. It’s very close.

That's fair, and this year I do think it would be close. I just don't see it that way the rest of the time.

I think the crux of the frustration with Racer fans and what we have been hearing about MVC expansion is that there seems to be a change in philosophy by MVC presidents. This change threatens the future of the conference we wish to join. It’s a conference that our school fits well, our athletics fit well, and one that has been, and for all intents and purposes SHOULD be , a nationally respected basketball conference. To see both evaporate would be terribly disappointing.

Murray State is a top 30 program in the country. The Missouri Valley is a top 10 conference. Let’s hope the powers that be don’t overthink this.

Difference between the Valley and SoCon.

The Valley's worst years find us 12th or 13th. The mid-00s before we lost a bunch of coaches, we got up to 6th.

The SoCon is in their period where they just lost a bunch of coaching talent got them UP to 12th or 13th.

You're comparing their modern day ceiling to our modern day floor.

We've also had about 6 teams in the last 12 that were slam dunk at larges that ended up winning in StL.

We also have a new commissioner. Doug Elgin, the epitome of the status quo, retired and the new guy, Jeff Jackson, seems a lot more gung ho with new ideas.

I'm an advocate for Murray State to the MVC but this is laughable. Murray State is #116 in KenPom's program ranks since 2002 which would put them below Northern Iowa (93), Missouri State (102), Illinois State (111), & Southern Illinois (112). Now recent success bumps them up no doubt but they're far from a top 30 program in the country.

In the murray forum this guy told me to "f*** off bitch" bc I said that it was "utterly laughable" that he'd apparently rather be in a conference where the premier competition is Morehead state w the rest of the league being 275+ than in the MVC competing against Belmont, Drake, UNI, etc.

He is easily triggered I suppose...guess it's not easy being confronted by blindingly obvious logic.

Lol you must be really butthurt to come over here crying lol. You said I preferred the OVC to the MVC which is a load of BS. If the MVC is looking at adding low major teams then I suggested we maintain the status quo....which according to our AD is to evaluate and find the best landing spot....whether it ultimately is the MVC, the SoCon or another conference. You ASSumed I wanted to stay forever in the OVC which is the only “laughable” comment made. I’ve been an advocate for ditching the OVC for years.

And btw, you most certainly are what I said and you can do what I told you lol.

I’m not talking about this year I’m talking all time. ESPN ranked the Racers as such a few years ago. But to be fair, CBS had the Racers at 44th best of all time, so I guess I could have said Top 50 Programs of all time. Regardless, I stand by the post.

Here is the link to the CBS story
