Western Illinois has to be moving there too. Makes way too much sense.

I think their secret plan (that they’ll never admit to) is to wait for the ASUN and other FCS leagues to poach OVC FB schools effectively finishing off OVC football, and then slide over to the OVC *and* keep their MVFC slot.

I think you're exactly right, even though their path to football relevance is non-existent in the MVFC.

The St Louis pod of the OVC is a million times better situation for them and I guarantee that UNI and Illinois State would continue to schedule them in football which is the only time they sell any tickets.

Western is in a weird position, kind of unique actually. What other school is in their ideal dream conference for football but they can't get in for all-sports so they are in a bad situation.

What I found is LA, Atlanta, and Chicago are the only 3 cities (currently) with 2 D1 (FBS and FCS) teams. I find that hard to believe but maybe so. I guess for some reason NYC doesn't count. Manhattan, St. John's, Long Island, Stony Brook, Iona.

Fairfield, CT (61K) has Sacred Heart (Northeast) and Fairfield (MAAC)

Charleston, SC (135K) has both The Citadel (Southern) and College of Charleston (Colonial), and a 3rd one is just over the bridge in North Charleston, Charleston Southern (Big South)

At the other end of the spectrum, I had forgotten Nashville actually has 4 D-1 schools. Philadelphia has 5, not including suburban Villanova. Chicago has 4, which doesn't include Northwestern in Evanston.

I referenced a map from back at least in 2017 so that makes sense then.
