- Doug was offered to greyshirt under Altman. One of many dumb recruiting mistakes by the departing staff in the last three years. But he was NOT offered a scholarship right off the bat, he would have to pay his own way year one.

- I could care less who owns what. Creighton plays in Qwest.

- fair enough

Ok Mr. KYLE...since you seem to know Doug mighty well and all his thoughts and reasons on what he does...enlighten us on your wealth of knowledge. :bs:

I will have to say i enjoy going to UNI on trips...got some pretty good food and to be honest I dont get the crazy fan references...During a trip to UNI two seasons ago, I went to a bar after the game, sat next to a UNI fan, looked at me in my sycamores shirt and said, "get the kid whatever he wants, he drove a long way." Guy paid for my drink and had a great conversation about how the Valley is constantly on a cycle of teams being good and bad... best road trip EVER!

Someone has dropped the ball. Eh Greenwad.

Very few about the actual game either.

UNI since we joined the Valley: Not that great
UNI since 2004: No too shabby.

Is that better?

This is getting comical. Do CU fans honestly believe Doug deciding to transfer immediately after GMac took the job was coincidence?

The superior academics claim is not being put on display in this thread.

In the Sports Illustrated story, Greg is quoted as saying he asked a coach friend if it is a good thing to have your son play on your team. He was told only if your son is the best player or a non factor player. Thus he must have felt this was not the case and he was not a good fit at Iowa State. Doug signs with UNI for various reasons. Greg then is offered the job at Creighton. His son is a non factor in the decision. After Greg accepts the job at Creighton, he then thinks his son playing for him is a better fit in a father as coach scenario. As a family they talk about it and they decide to pursue it. He talks to UNI, they say OK, and Doug comes to Creighton. He initially wants to redshirt Doug but there are injuries, his son does better than expected and here we are with Doug as a starter. That is my honest opinion. No one here has said one word that it was anything other than what I said above. I think Greg is grateful to all of those involved at UNI that allowed this to take place. Yes it put UNI and Jacobsen in a tough spot. I got the impression the AD was not on board at first but he changed his mind. This thread is the first time I have ever heard anyone say Greg told anyone he would bring his son with him. I don't believe that to be the case at all.

I don't think Dannen was on board, but respected coach's wishes.

I am finding it comical that most UNI fans here are treating Doug's decision as some major moral/ethical life decision. With these types of decisions you have to be selfish. He can't think about diehard Joe Schmo UNI fans being b#*t hurt about their front court being slightly depleted. Yes the timing could have been better but that is life. It appears he wanted to play for his father but ISU wouldnt have been a good fit, and he would have gotten more exposure at the mid-major level anyways. People drop out of their LUI for much worse reasons. Just think of how it would be if Greg had to coach 2 games every year, or visa versa with Doug against his dad. I don't think I would like that situation very much.

You're are so right..it is getting comical, but on your part. Never said that is was a "coincidence". But once Greg took the job at Creighton it was probably not hard for Doug to follow his Dad, great school, facilities and fans, certainly can't blame a kid for that.

So I ask you AGAIN Mr. KYLE...enlighten all of us poor souls that do not have your wealth of knowledge.

If I was Greg I would tell my son all you have in life is your word and even though circumstances have changed you need to honor your commitment. I'd teach him about what it means to be a man and what it means to be a welcher.

If I was Doug I would tell my Dad I've decided that my word is my bond and I'm sticking to my commitments through thick and thin.

If you really have a son, you know that you would do no such thing.

Having a child get a D1 athletic scholarship is every father's dream. Coaching your own son at a D1 school is something most of us can't even fathom.

I understand why UNI fans are pissed and I'd be pissed as well. I'd truly hate it if Dana resurfaced at another Valley school. I see no reason why UNI fans shouldn't let Big Mac have it. I don't really see how the Quarter Pounder is to blame though.

The comment by some UNI fans that Creighton hired Big Mac because he'd bring his son is just stupid. If I had any reason to believe our AD hired anyone because of a kid that would only be there for 4 years, I'd be pissed. You hire a coach because you think he can coach, not because he has a son that you previously only offered a greyshirt opportunity to...
