And something to consider, Elgin needs the Shox a lot more than the Shox need the Valley.

Not really. Where does WSU fan's think they would go? They'd look nice in the Southland Conference I suppose. The Mountain West/CUSA will not want them because they don't have football. The so-called basketball super conference that rumor has DePaul, Marquette and Notre Dame have been rumored to have discussed, all of those schools are in the Midwest and on the East Coast. Do you really think any conference east of the Mississippi wants to travel to south central Kansas???

As I said earlier, if WSU fans want to leave, fine by me. With Marshall's post game antics, I have lost a lot of respect for what was one of my favorite teams in the Valley.

It is unfortunate to have a press conference so quickly afterward, but it seems to be a necessity. There are beat writers from every school that need to get their quotes quickly and then go back and watch the next game. You need media coverage to make the event profitable.

You don't want to keep the teams in the arena for a long time afterward either, so the only choice you have is a quick press conference almost immediately after the game.

Not to mention that since this is the conference tourney and national media types are present. With WSU being ranked it also means that AP and other wire services need quotes for their stories too.

Has WSU ever lost in the tourney w/o Marshall having some sort of meltdown? I know he's the only coach to have ever been ejected...

All the guy does is win. Competitive people sometimes get pissed after a tough loss. It happens.

Will the MVC punish him for his criticism?

Will Marshall still be in the MVC next season?

Why are people getting their panties in a wad over a team's message board after a close loss, which also happened to only be the 2nd one this calendar year? Why is that even brought over here? Do other fans always bring comments from another team's home message board over here? If you don't like what is being said on Shocker Net, then don't go there. Do you expect those fans to be rosy and cheery right now?

The officiating was weak, but it is what it is. WSU will still be playing in the more important tournament later on and will still have a better seed than Creighton. I hope Illinois State absolutely pancakes Creighton tomorrow like there is no end in sight. Good luck Redbirds.

Thank you for a post of reason DUBulldog. Marshall gets some flack and I get a lot of it, but it's not because he's an "asshat." It's because he is a competitor. Some people certainly like to paint with broad strokes over here. It says a lot about their interpretations of human behavior. I could have said similar things about Greg McDermott headbutting his son in a heated timeout during their home blowout loss to WSU a few weeks ago. But everyone knows the reason behind it and its intent.

How many times has a commissioner had to tell a head coach to shut his mouth? HCGM certainly has issues.

This might be true this year, but it wasn't very long ago when WSU was a back to back Thursday team. Thursday teams in the MVC usually don't have very much leverage.

At any point did Marshall give credit to Illinois State or did he just complain about how everyone cheated them?

"I was not as struck by poor officiating as I was by the Shockers’ inability to make shots. After shooting 53.7 percent from the field and 47.2 percent from the three-point line in its seven previous games, WSU made 34.9 percent of its shots against the young Redbirds and was 7 of 23 from the three-point line."

The Shockers will beat the Redbirds 7 out of 10 games. Yesterday, the Redbirds deserved their win. I was so impressed with their second half play.

Lutz is right on: The MVC wants the Shockers to do well. But, officials are independent and call a game the way they see it. I do disagree with Lutz's assertion that bad calls influenced the outcome. I say missed three pointers, Redbird hustle, and Shocker illness influenced the outcome.

Sat with a lively couple from Wichita last night and both witnessed two Shocker players vomitting in a trashcan. They made no excuses.

I am biased. I like Coach Marshall. I dealt with him and his staff when he was at Winthrop. My bias causes me to cut him some slack for his emotional response.

Rule number one for a press conference is to recognize your opponent's good play and to never directly talk about officiating. If one chooses to talk to officiating indirectly, he should tread carefully. St Louis is a neutral court. The officials do not give a dang about who wins. Do they miss some calls? Yup. Can the missed calls influence the game? Not if you hit your FTs, open 3s, and reduce turnovers.....................
There is no difference between basketball and life. Give both your best and ignore the "fans" on the sideline.

Coaches know press conferences follow the game imediately. Coaches know you have to remain professional and represent your team, school and conference in the best possible image. Coaches know you can win or lose on any given day. Coaches get paid good money to perform this task.
After a game a coach needs to do his job professionally win or lose.
