Belmont, on the other hand, offers nearly ALL sports that the MVC sponsors.

Let's add both, and throw Murray State in there for good measure.

Agree, Denver, Belmont and Murray State would be great adds. If Denver is too far, maybe Oral Roberts. Only reservation on Denver is not only their limited sports but the fact they've never made an NCAA tournament (16 years of D1 play).

while ORU is an option, that article made it sound like they were pretty far down the list. Denver does have a pretty good men's team this year, and it appears they're young. They may make the NCAA field this year out of the WAC if they can win their conference tourney. They did win at UNI this year in bracketbusters (in a horribly officiated game). If they don't wind up in the MVC and do in fact join the old Mid Con they will finish first or 2nd in that league every year.

Denver would not be a good addition.

Wrong sports - and their AD has publically said that they will not add programs
Too far - those upset about the Dakotas.... They are farther
Market Size - denver is great but no one gives a flying F about DU in Colorado.
Winners - nope. Their team is ok this year (but not outstanding). They will not make the tournament this year.
Funding - they are first and foremost a hockey school. Basketball will always get the scraps.

Belmont's AD denies being in contact with the MVC, so I suppose this means they're in

No denials in the Denver press yet (from the Denver AD)

Denver doesn't offer baseball, softball, track, or cross country. Anything else they're missing? Is that a dealbreaker for people?

I pulled this from the WAC message board, it sounds as though DU would be willing to add sports "if" the right conference came calling.

Re: Big East Expansion-Just Got Real!
Before, Denver joined the Summit, I talked with one of the Associate ADs who said that for the right offer that Denver would add sports other than football, if needed to join the right long term conference. The MVC is definitely one of Denver's top choices: WCC and MVC have always been the two top choices for Denver's final landing spot. We had a pretty good baseball program when I was at Denver in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
I hope that they will spend the money for baseball, softball and cross country inorder to get a long term home so we can finally build to long term conference rivalries

another thing about Belmont as well, I think they may already offer more sports than any other MVC institution

I agree with those who support adding all three of Denver, Belmont and Murray State. The backups that wouldn't make me cringe too badly include Loyola-Chicago, UW-Milwaukee and Detroit.

I hate the idea of adding ORU despite their proximity to WSU. I have no problem with religious institutions, but they are a little too stigmatized for my liking...basically the midwest version of Regent University. Nothing screams homeschooled virgin like an ORU degree.

Yeah, just saw that, can't imagine someone wanting to stay in the Summit over the MVC? MVC must have either asked for more sports or maybe Denver isn't interested in elevating their basketball cause hockey is their big sport.
