Good gravy.....when will it end at ISU? Just for the sake of this discussion, I've seen Odum, Rice and Mac.

There is NO comparison. NONE. I am sure Odum is a nice player for a team that's been in the playin round of the Valley for almost all of the past decade, but when your team is competing for something a little more than 6th place, you need better players. I know you like him, and he's a local guy and a tough kid. He's a nice player.

He is NO Doug McDermott or Rayvonte Rice.

I've seen both Odum and McDermott (only seen Rice play in high school).

Odum was the more impressive of the two, but his minutes will be cut if/when Future NBAer Jake Kelly returns.

You have got to be kidding. While no doubt Odum is good, when he puts up 20 pts and 12 boards or any kind of double-double against a top 25 teams, then talk about FOY. Odum is playing about a minute less per game but is averaging half the rebounds and half the points of McDermott. I realize it will play out over the course of the season, but FOY is going to be based on actual contribution on court. Right now, McD is the clear front runner with Rice close on his heels, IMO. All the others are trailing the pack hoping one of the leaders should stumble.

Agree, except McD is not the CLEAR front runner...maybe front runner by a nose. Rice and McD are men among boys when it comes to MVC frosh, but those two are in a heated race for post season accolades.

Jake Odum is going to be one of the best point guards in the MVC. His team contributions will come in assists, steals, rebounds, possibly a leader in the assist to T.O. ratio for the conference and he'll get his share of points.

He won't be a conference ppg leader, but he'll be one of those players opposing MVC fans will be happy to see graduate and get out of their hair. Let's not forget, Odum was an Indiana All-Star and played in the top 4A conference(MIC) in the state. His being from Terre Haute has nothing to do with his being looked upon as being something that he can't measure up to.

Speaking of local players…..ISU gets another local talent in 6' 9" Justin Gant of Terre Haute North next year. He will be an Indiana All Star also from the MIC. Wouldn't be surprised to see him red shirt because we have a 6' 9" red shirt freshman this year who was also an Indiana All Star last year.

Oh yeah, the future is looking good not only for ISU-B, but the MVC as a whole as several teams have some very good young talent. We ALL want to see the MVC back as an upper echelon conference.

The only reason McD is in the lead for me is McD went for 28 and 10 in head to head while Rice was fairly invisible that night. No they don't guard each other but head to head means something to me. Rice will probably end up scoring more as CU figures out how to incorporate the two centers at the same time more which will eat into McD's minutes.

If the guys guarding Rice were as inept as the Drake players who were guarding McD, Rice would go off for huge numbers too.

All I gotta say is if that kid was at Creighton then the four headed gnat that is Darryl Ashford, Kaleb Korver, Josh Jones and Jahenns Manigat would be put on waivers. That they shut down Rice is a damning statement.

Our wings are, well, let's just say they're holding us back. I'll take Antoine Young and our 4's and 5's over anyone. After that we aren't good.

EDIT: That's not fair to Korver who has played some good ball at times this year. Manigat has played some good ball for a frosh but not a lot. It's DAsh and JJ that have pretty much stunk on ice.
