I like these games, Chicago State nearly won at Illinois State last season as you all know, and Missouri St Louis is always a formidable D2 challenge. These are games ISU should be competitive in and have a chance to win at the end.

So the updated schedule for the Sycamores, looking for a home game the week before Christmas and probably another D2 opponent.

They could be good. Last year’s Chicago St @ Illinois St game was EPIC.

I've gotta hope you aren't serious about this post. Chicago St was 3-28 and while UMSL had an ok year, they are a very very average D-2 program most years. If these are "games ISU should be competitive in and have a chance to win at the end", then you're in big trouble.I see Indiana State as a lot better than that. Those are cannon fodder games; the ones you schedule at home for easy wins early in a season. And would the Sycamores really look to add another D-2 game ??

Yes, Serious about this, as you know we've suffered through FIVE straight losing seasons. More often than not we play on Thursday in St Louis, where we are typically blown out in our first game and sent back to Terre Haute early.

We have shown early season success in non conference play, and actually have some very good wins recently (IU, Butler, Colorado, UNLV, etc...) but then we tank once MVC play begins. MVC coaches have figured out how to guard us, our offense is pretty bland and easy to defend.

We have good players but having Lansing remain as coach has been our big crutch, you should be able to relate as you guys had Lusk and suffered similar fates. Many know we can't afford to buy him out, right now he has 2 more seasons on his contract, but many are hopeful he can be bought out after the 19-20 season.

So it's ok for us to schedule the likes of Chicago State and D2 games at this point, and be hopeful we can compete with these types of teams and get a few wins, ISU doesn't have the money to be able to "buy" teams to come to Terre Haute, other than D2 teams more or less, it is what it is.

This season we still won't be very good, we're going to be very young this year with lots of freshman and new players. We'll be picked to finish 9th or 10th in the preseason polls for sure.

Apathy and non interest in the program has set in. Most ISU fans I interact with anymore just don't care about ISU basketball or go to the games anymore. Everyone is waiting for a new coach to come in so we can begin anew.

I don't think anyone faults the Sycs for scheduling Chicago State or D2 but a "chance to win at the end" is not what I think you meant to say. Not beating them comfortably should set off alarm bells and be another nail in Lansing's coffin.

yes, I did mean to phrase it that way, historically under Lansing we play to the level of our opponents, whether they be good or bad. So I suspect we'll play at the same level Chicago State and Missouri St Louis choose to play at, and then hopefully at the end we'll put ourselves in a position to win the game, that's how we roll. We've had 5 straight losing seasons to witness this, so it won't be any different in 19-20

Bears have added a roadie @ VCU ; with roadies at LSU, VCU, and Xavier plus potential tourney games vs some combination of Florida/UCONN/ Miami/ ?? and Murray State @ home, Bears now have a schedule that can get you an @large bid if you win some games. Good job Dana Ford.

Ford is doing a great job. He has always been a great recruiter but it seems to me he has learned a lot from the HC's he's worked for along the way. His offensive and defensive strategies remind me of Marshall at WSU, and the scheduling philosophy is Muller-like. (Well... Muller a few years ago- they haven't been as good lately but still 100x better than Jank). I'm not sure Dana will be at MSU long. I'll have him gone by the 2025-26 season. He's going to do some big things in Springfield during that time.

I would definitely sign up for having him that long... Unfortunately, I think he will be a distant but fond memory by the time the 25-26 season roll around.

It all comes down to can he win. Lots of coaches out there looking for that quick success and jump up to the next level, and then 7-8 years later still looking. Lusk didn't find it, Barry didn't find it,Muller hasn't found it yet. Easier said than done.
