So the updated schedule for the Sycamores, looking for a home game the week before Christmas and probably another D2 opponent.
I've gotta hope you aren't serious about this post. Chicago St was 3-28 and while UMSL had an ok year, they are a very very average D-2 program most years. If these are "games ISU should be competitive in and have a chance to win at the end", then you're in big trouble. I see Indiana State as a lot better than that. Those are cannon fodder games; the ones you schedule at home for easy wins early in a season. And would the Sycamores really look to add another D-2 game ??
Yes, Serious about this, as you know we've suffered through FIVE straight losing seasons. More often than not we play on Thursday in St Louis, where we are typically blown out in our first game and sent back to Terre Haute early.
We have shown early season success in non conference play, and actually have some very good wins recently (IU, Butler, Colorado, UNLV, etc...) but then we tank once MVC play begins. MVC coaches have figured out how to guard us, our offense is pretty bland and easy to defend.
We have good players but having Lansing remain as coach has been our big crutch, you should be able to relate as you guys had Lusk and suffered similar fates. Many know we can't afford to buy him out, right now he has 2 more seasons on his contract, but many are hopeful he can be bought out after the 19-20 season.
So it's ok for us to schedule the likes of Chicago State and D2 games at this point, and be hopeful we can compete with these types of teams and get a few wins, ISU doesn't have the money to be able to "buy" teams to come to Terre Haute, other than D2 teams more or less, it is what it is.
This season we still won't be very good, we're going to be very young this year with lots of freshman and new players. We'll be picked to finish 9th or 10th in the preseason polls for sure.
Apathy and non interest in the program has set in. Most ISU fans I interact with anymore just don't care about ISU basketball or go to the games anymore. Everyone is waiting for a new coach to come in so we can begin anew.
