Again, most likely nothing more than experiencing the Academy but it is something that happened.

Would UNI want the added expense that comes with that? Travel, FBS Football budget, etc? Have a couple recent UNI grads in the fam and they haven’t talked highly of UNI’s budget situation

That's the million(s of dollars question). Constantly being held to the same standards as Iowa and Iowa State for our athletic budget has been nothing but detrimental and we currently have a disaster of an AD which has just compounded everything.
Depends on what school of thought you fall into. Go big and hope the increased conference revenue builds some momentum and gets the ball rolling again or stay where you're at and try to cut your way out of it. Neither is a great option and the only thing standing between UNI and complete irrelelevance is the core of coaches that we've managed to hold on to for over a decade. When they start to retire/move on, we're boned without major changes in the Athletic Department structure.

Ten years ago those schools were Sun Belt, but they are now CUSA and getting ready to go join Wichita's league in a couple of years.
This is the current Sun Belt:
Arkansas State
Louisiana Lafayette
Louisiana Monroe
Texas State
Appalachian State
Georgia State
Georgia Southern
Coastal Carolina
Troy
South Alabama
James Madison (joining)
Southern Mississippi (joining)
Marshall (joining)
Old Dominion (joining)

Oh yes, a conference is irrelevant because a couple message board posters messed up teams in said conference.
