There is zero doubt that if an invitation comes that the Bears will accept it. They’ve been working toward it behind the scenes now for a while. It’s probably just a matter of time.

MWC will have some spots opening up soon with Boise State, Fresno State, SDSU, and UNLV (desired market) possibly making a jump. NDSU is as good as gone. This certainly couldn't hurt UNI if they want the travel.

Again, most likely nothing more than experiencing the Academy but it is something that happened.

Would UNI want the added expense that comes with that? Travel, FBS Football budget, etc? Have a couple recent UNI grads in the fam and they haven’t talked highly of UNI’s budget situation

That's the million(s of dollars question). Constantly being held to the same standards as Iowa and Iowa State for our athletic budget has been nothing but detrimental and we currently have a disaster of an AD which has just compounded everything.

Depends on what school of thought you fall into. Go big and hope the increased conference revenue builds some momentum and gets the ball rolling again or stay where you're at and try to cut your way out of it. Neither is a great option and the only thing standing between UNI and complete irrelelevance is the core of coaches that we've managed to hold on to for over a decade. When they start to retire/move on, we're boned without major changes in the Athletic Department structure.

I'm guessing it's situations like your athletic department's woes and Missouri State's possibly leaving the Valley that has Commissioner Jackson and the Board at the ready to add possible candidates. I don't know if the Conference will be reactive and add after the Bears and Panthers potentially leave or add as a precautionary move.

I have no doubt Commissioner Jackson has his pulse on everything and recognizes what’s a realistic scenario (MSU to Sun Belt) and what isn’t (UNI to MWC).

Oh, I don't think it's happening either but the MW is going to have to backfill after the MW becomes the Pac-??.

It's absolutely not happening without a seismic shift.

My guess is the Mountain West will end up being:

Air Force
Boise State (won't get into the Big 12 until the ACC is raided in 10 years)
Colorado State
Fresno State
Hawai'i
Montana
Montana State
Nevada
New Mexico
North Dakota State
San Jose State
South Dakota State
Tulsa/UTEP
Wyoming
UNLV
Utah State

Ten years ago those schools were Sun Belt, but they are now CUSA and getting ready to go join Wichita's league in a couple of years.

This is the current Sun Belt:
Arkansas State
Louisiana Lafayette
Louisiana Monroe
Texas State
Appalachian State
Georgia State
Georgia Southern
Coastal Carolina
Troy
South Alabama
James Madison (joining)
Southern Mississippi (joining)
Marshall (joining)
Old Dominion (joining)

Oh yes, a conference is irrelevant because a couple message board posters messed up teams in said conference.

What exactly has the Sun Belt done recently in the NCAA Tournament and what memorable bowl games have they won? I need a reminder, because I honestly have no idea. My guess would be not much, but maybe I'll be surprised.
