Valpo's De La Cruz Monegro to the portal as well as Isaiah Stafford
https://x.com/travisbranham_/status/190 ... 98061?s=46

Not shocked by the Monegro move because everybody is looking for their brand new 1 season home. Stafford for those who remember averaged 16.9 points per game for Valpo in 23-24 and redshirted with a torn ACL so that he could recover and now sell his services elsewhere.

What a system! I just love these kids and adore their agents.

Agreed that it's hard but UNI has Iowa's Mr Basketball, a finalist for Minnesota's Mr Basketball (not announced yet) and a 1st Team All State kid from Michigan's biggest class that was also on the all tournament team as his team rolled to a state title.

I think it's an absolute positive that the better programs in the league are still embracing high school talent.

I agree on your last sentence.

I think recruiting is like news - it’s local.

Almost all Bradley fans are calling this Wardle’s best freshmen class. Is it because they are good or two of the main guys are from the Peoria area? The hype is also jacked up with the fact that one kid - Matthew Zobrist is the son of a BU 1,000 point scorer and the other - Dietrich Richardson is the son of former Illinois starter DJ Richardson.

There isn’t much more that get Bradley fans excited about than local kids. I’m always leery of recruiting rankings and local kids sometimes get overrated - but right now the HS hoops in the Peoria area is the best in the State of Illinois and the overall talent in the state is the best in the Midwest.

It's so funny because UNI fans are the opposite. We got real sick of only recruiting Iowa kids so getting into Michigan and being strongly involved with kids from Ohio, Oklahoma and Texas has been a fantastic change.

In the end, you can tell which programs know who they are and Bradley and UNI are certainly two of them.

Ha! For sure.

I will give kudos to Ryan Pedon. He has done very well on the HS recruiting circuit. I know two of their incoming kids from the Chicago suburbs are both considered to be good players.

But like you I’m not sure he can coach or run a program.

I've seen Richardson play twice. One game he looked absolutely amazing against inferior competition. At the 3A state semifinals, he and his teammates just looked befuddled. I'm not sure what to make of his play yet. I'm sure with four other talented players around him that he will look pretty good.

That seems to be the case with him. The story is he played the post mostly for Manual - because he had to. His real position is that of a combo guard supposedly.

But I'm with you - I wanted him to dominate the 2A players - he didn't always. But he was also the best player in the Peoria region and it has a lot of talent - so who knows.

We were pretty bummed about missing out on Allen especially. We needed that length. Love what Hornseth is going to be but he's 'only' 6-8.
