I could actually see Wichita State being an option for the Pac-whatever. Not because they are the best option but because they could check boxes. The Pac-6 has been clear that they want to stay small. Less mouths to feed. It looks like their primary targets are Memphis and Tulane.

The reason I think Wichita could make sense is that they would bridge the western teams one more state closer to Tennessee and Louisiana. More importantly, they wouldn't need to be paid a full share. Adding one intermediate team for basketball (volleyball, baseball, etc) means one less cross-country trip for Tulane/Memphis and less eastern trips for the western schools. That's a big deal.

Geographically it makes sense to create a bridge but I'd imagine their would be some hesitancy adding Wichita State. Since Marshall left, they haven't been that good in basketball, which is their only added value to a league that is mostly chasing football money. There is a good chance they could become one more underperforming mouth to feed.

Oregon St AD has been quoted they’re only looking at members who play FB. He’s also said they want to limit membership to 8-10.

Wichita isn’t sniffing a Pac invite. They neither have a desirable location (TX/FL/CA or big metro) nor a big tv value. The Pac-6’s goal is to maximize revenue, not add a mouth to feed because they serve as a bridge.

Remember, Wichita has 2 NCAA Tournament appearances in their last 23 seasons where Gregg Marshall was not the coach. That is wildly unappealing for a best-of-the-rest conference.

Confuse UTSA with Arlington, perhaps?

Easy enough to do with all the Texas alphabet soup schools.

That's exactly what I did. Skimmed through it and automatically thought Arlington which is UTA not UTSA.
