Whatever happens if CU were to happen to bolt, the Valley will be weaker, much weaker than it is today, just like the last time we added teams, and the time before that.

The D-2 comment aside, what do you mean by "no money spending?" Last I checked, UE, MSU, and UNI have the 3 newest arenas in the league and have comparable athletic budgets to the other schools in the conference.

True, but at the same time, UNI's arena is the smallest in the league, Missouri State, other than winning the regular season last year, hasn't done much of anything and Evansville has done absolutely nothing. Also, both UNI and Missouri State are documented to having financial concerns. So yes, they do have the newest arenas, but that is akin to the guy on your street that has the most expensive car but is teetering on having his house foreclosed.

Those 3 programs joining the Valley was akin to Lewis Skolnick nailing Betty Childs on the moon. The one difference is Lewis actually ended up being a good guy and brought something to the table.

Nevertheless, they all slipped into a golden situation that was way out of their league.

Also, they neglect to point out in the movie that Betty ends up fat and ugly, strung out on meth after hanging out with the nerds.

Since you brought up the 90's as a benchmark, those three programs average 4 trips and about 2 wins in the NCAA tournament since 1990. Some might say that's at least on par with a few of the legacy programs in the Valley.

MOValley John, you shouldn't have said that until last year Missouri State hadn't accomplished much. Those folks have a really high opinion of themselves so I am afraid bodily harm for you lurks just around the corner.

:D

I'll be okay. I've angered them before and I'm sure I will anger them again. I've also survived their internet stalking of me. I'll be fine.

Is a Wichita State fan seriously throwing stones at Missouri State about "not contributing to the Valley"? What exactly has Wichita State brought to the table since Missouri State entered the league, that MSU hasn't?

I believe they both have a Sweet 16 run and a regular season title. MSU has 2 NCAA appearances to Wichita's one. I know for a fact Missouri State owns the series, and I don't believe it's even that close. MSU also brought the Valley two Final Four banners (women's basketball I know but at least it happened while I was alive).

I am obviously not as educated about UNI, but they have certainly turned things around recently and frankly without what UNI did in 2010, the Valley would have nothing to brag about for the last four years.

Ridiculous. I'm beginning to understand why people think Shocker fans are delusional.

Then again, you are wrong, Lewis had his day in the sun but he was still a freaking nerd!

They are a very pedestrian school in a dull, declining state too. They have to brag about something I guess, if the NIT title makes them feel good then they should shout from some mountain somewhere, although there are none in Kansas. But I am all for there enthusisasm. Look they have a fine baseball program, a fine bowling team I hear, and a good aeronautical engineering program. Those are all things to take pride in. They have a slightly better than mediocre basketball tradition which isn't all bad, but they try to make it bigger than it is. I wouldn't go as far as to say they are deluded, but they have an inflated sense of self worth in some ways. They have this peculiar combination of brash arrogance combined with deep seeded insecurities. Interesting bunch to converse worth. Sometimes I wonder if the Valley neighborhood really needs them, RPI be darned but in the end I don't mind them. I always get a chuckle at their boisterous bravado but it makes things fun around these parts.

Actually Casey, WSU has a long and well regarded history in college basketball. I remember as a kid the Ralph Miller era and the success they had in The Valley when the league was more than one team to the NCAA bid league but was in fact one of the most highly regarded leagues in college basketball. This was during the time Missouri State was Southwest Missouri State playing at the Div II level. I remember names like Dave Stallworth, Xavier McDaniel, Cliff Levingston and Antoine Carr who all played in the NBA. How many MSU players have made the NBA? The success that Wichita State had this past season was not a fluke but it was performed by a really good team that has a well regarded past and tradition.

I don't mean this as a slight to MSU as you too had a nice season last year but when you insult The Shockers you are out of bounds. And no, I am not a WSU fan but I do respect what they have achieved over the years.

You, and pretty much everyone on here, overstate the financial issues at UNI. There was never a threat to cut D1 sports or sports completely. There was a statement from the BOR to UNI to cut use of state funds by 2015, which UNI has a plan in place to do. The study that looked at droping to D2, and sports, also looked at moving FBS. From the study a move to FBS is more likely than a move to D2.

If someone wasn't aware of what the actual situation at UNI was, and they only got their information from the posters here, they'd believe that UNI was the only school in the nation with a financial challenge right now and think that UNI is lucky to be around as a university.
