Cite me to any single college ranking (USA Today, AP, ESPN) in which CU has ever been ranked in the Top 5 in the country in Men's Basketball. The Big East is an Athletic Conference.

Funny thing about the current Big East. For all your blathering, they have exactly ONE member ranked and ZERO members ranked ahead of the highest ranked Valley member. Maybe the grass is greenest because one waters their own damn lawn, not because they live in a perceived nicer neighborhood.

Here's the deal:

Creighton fans put aside their obsession with the Valley and WSU, only returning to gloat when they have reached the Sweet 16.

WSU fans will only invade Big East and Creighton messages boards with their "obsession" when they win the Valley Tournament.

I think this is fair. And will rid us of Creighton fans for eternity, which at this point looks like what everyone wants. When you have fans of other Valley schools actually agreeing with and defending WSU fans, you might want to consider how annoying you must be.

Why would we invade their boards because we won the Valley tournament? The only reason it would be a significant victory for WSU is because we haven't won it. It would be nice to win the Valley tournament, but winning the regular season and doing well in the NCAA are more important accomplishments.

Because it is the only thing Creighton fans want to hang over WSU's head. Apparently to their program, that is more impressive. And that is fine. Like I said, I think it is a fair agreement. And would rid us of their blathering for the foreseeable future.

All this hostility because of two Creighton fans.

I haven't commented in this thread because you have every right to gloat and attack the two posters who are baiting you. Don't forget there are some good people too who are cheering for the mvc and just want to talk basketball.

Let me ask a real question. Is WSU 12 spots better than CU? Shockers came on strong when they got healthy, but CU still took 2 of 3. Who lost more? I would think a best of 3 this year might bring same results.

And which team is getting Final 4 rings tomorrow night? Does the average basketball fan know who won between Creighton and WSU? If you guys still want to have this discussion...great you won 2 of 3 and were gone the first weekend of the tournament.

Fair enough. I think it's a reasonable argument. I think WSU is significantly better at the guard positions. I think the gap is closed some at the 4. I think the 5 is a toss-up with no reliable experience to count on for either team. In a home-away-neutral setting like last year, I think a lot of people might flip the script and call for 2 WSU wins, but not by a landslide.

"Shockers came on strong when they got healthy, but CU still took 2 of 3."

This doesn't really make that much sense. It's like saying "The Shockers were good when they got healthy, but CU won 2 of 3 when they weren't healthy." The healthiest WSU team CU faced last year was in the Valley Tourney, and that was a very close game.

Who lost more? Not sure. Always concerning when you lose a starting 1 or a 5, much less both. I think everyone feels pretty good on the PG replacement at WSU based on end-of-season performance of FVV. Losing Hall hurts. Does it hurt more than losing Echineque? He was 1 of 13 players on that team that played defense. His ability to defend the lane alone and require significant defensive attention were a HUGE asset to Doug. Not sure who replaces that.

Without Gibbs (as most of us were expecting) I think Creighton would've struggled to be a Top-50 team this year. With Gibbs (if he can stay healthy---anybody else think he looked like dead man walking by the end of last year?) I think Creighton is a borderline Top 25 team.
WSU also gains a lot of experience. Baker, Wessel and Coleby didn't play most of the season last year, but have a combined 5 years experience in Marshall's system.

I do think this year's league race would be a lot more interesting with WSU, CU, and InSU all at the top. A lot more tough games to go around. I think I would pick CU 3rd out of those 3 teams though. InSU 1st.

I didn't take it as bringing back the conversation back to reality....if he wasn't baiting I do apologize

To bring the conversation back to reality, that is, to the original topic of the thread... It appears Ben Jacobsen has thought of a way to compensate for the loss of the RPI games.

From the Des Moines Register, 10/10/2013
"When you lose a program like Creighton, there's no sugarcoating it," Elgin said. "It's a devastating loss. They're going to go on and have success in the league they've joined..." Jeff Eisenberg, Yahoo Sports, October 10, 2013.

IMO no way CU would take 2 of 3 from the Shox this year. Not without Echenique. He anchored the Jays defense. No doubt WSU will miss Hall but not nearly as much as the Jays will miss big E. The reason being the Shox have other good defenders. Not so with CU.

I agree. The only player that we never had a complete answer for last year was Ech. We didn't have anyone with his size and girth that was ready to play at a high level. This year, we will have one and maybe two or three 6'9 250-270 that are ready to play.

I think the pg spot for WSU is a bigger question than people think. It's tough to step in year one. Creighton returns 85% of its minutes! and those other guys can cover up a lot of mistakes. FVV will have to step up fast without a net.

We know WSU has depth. We know ISU has a good core, and UNI always has athletes. I personally like MSU in the coming years. But....depth is an issue for everyone. I will admit I don't know enough about the rest of the teams. How do the 6,7, and 8 players look? That always seems to be the X factor.

This probably deserves another thread but we finally have traction on a decent conversation. Thanks to those who embraced real conversation.
