Two things are true. SLU isn't joining the MVC and SLU isn't joining the Big East.

No one is joining the MVC until someone eventually leaves again. I would prefer not even having SLU in the conference to be completely honest. The last thing we need is another "Wichita" that way outspends everyone and openly wants to leave the conference. Worse yet they are in St Louis where our tournament is. I'll pass on that.

In the last 45 years:

MVC
Metro
MCC
Great Midwest
Conference USA
Atlantic 10

6 conferences and never was really a consistent contender in any of them. Despite all that conference jumping, they remain where they were 45 years ago, a mid-major in a large market. I would listen to them, but certainly wouldn't roll out the red carpet.

That said, [and this may surprise some]if you look at the current MVC teams and go back 30 years to the 90-91 year and look at what has happened since, SLU and UNI have the same # of NCAA appearances[8] and actually the teams in the current Valley that had the most during that time are SIU & Valpo [9]. They've {SLU} also had years where they averaged 15,000 when they were at Scottrade. Make no mistake, SLU would be a really good addition, but it ain't likely to happen unless monumental shifts happen.

Hate to say it, but in 10 years half these universities might be gone.

I get your points somewhat. I would argue though comparing bids with UNI over 30 years isn't that accurate considering how awful UNI was during the 90's. The last 20 years is a different story.

I agree that SLU checks all the boxes on the surface...but you can't discount they have hopped 6 conferences in the last 45 years to be basically still in the same spot. If this isn't a definition of someone who constantly thinks the grass is greener on the other side, I don't know what is. If they somehow decided to make such a move, it would now be the 7th conference. Is there a program in college basketball that has been in 7 conferences in the last 50 years? I doubt it.

I don't think SLU would ever consider being in a conference with most of the schools in the Valley and i don't think it is primarily about sports.

A couple things, you have to remember that many of those conference shifts for SLU involved moving along with teams like Cinn. Memphis, and even Louisville in those shifts from the Metro to USA etc , so it was hardly them bouncing by themselves. Eventually they weren't able to cash in as well as some of their constituents, kinda like WSU was left behind when those teams left the Valley. Also the reason I used the 30 year mark was that was the time frame when teams like MSU & UNI entered the Valley and therefore was playing in comparable conference. That's why Valpo's # of NCAA tourneys is a bit less impressive because all of those came in much weaker settings[ not dissing Valpo, you have to win where you are} . My point was that when examining SLU's record against current Valley teams across the period of time that encompasses our current league structure and teams, SLU would be among our best teams overall during that time as far as NCAA appearances and probably other than Bradley, no other team has the attendance potential they do.

But they ain't coming , so moot point.

So... IF the MVC adds Murray-- who would be the 12th school?
