If Missouri State leaves, who do you add?

Discuss the MVC hoops season here.

Hypothetically, who would you replace MO State with?

We aren't replacing a public school with a private. Especially not one with 2 years in DI.

I didn't realize the commissioner was posting here now.

Prior to July 1, the league was split 5 public/5 private. The subtraction of Loyola, and addition of Murray, Belmont and UIC gave it the current split of 7 public/5 private. While I think it has been clear the public/private makeup is not a primary issue, there is no logical reason to maintain that Missouri State has to be replaced by a public. A 6/6 split is certainly feasible.

Hopefully, if they go the FBS route, we replace them with the best option regardless of a public or private concern.

With New Orleans looking to add football (pending a student vote to approve the proposed fee structure to pay for it on Nov 7-8), I'd put them on the radar.

With New Mexico State moving to CUSA, Grand Canyon might be more inclined to leave the WAC for the MVC.
Phoenix is a major airport hub and a familiar face in Bryce Drew took them to their first NCAA last year.

As much as I love grand canyon they would need a second team out west. Denver just doesn't fit. It's a hockey school. Would definitely make the privates happy though. I'm not sure there is a second mvc caliber team out west.

The way I see it there are no programs in conferences below the MVC with anywhere close the potential of Grand Canyon. Splash hires (Majerle, Drew), sold out raucous crowds. Maybe St Thomas could get there one day. Even if there isn’t a good nearby partner I’d bite the budget bullet with GCU if a current member leaves. The MVC needs to commit to being the best midmajor league where at large bids are realistic and GCU would even elevate the conference as a replacement.

Grand Canyon is going to have a Liberty-like trajectory, especially if they add football. Which means they would just use the Valley transitionally.

Also the WAC is still targeting becoming an FBS league, which means they are already potentially positioned at a higher level.

New Orleans has the smallest non-HBCU athletic budget in D1 except for Chicago St (and UNO's athletic budget is only $500k above CSU's). UNO won't be a candidate with that budget.

The WAC is no longer pushing for a return to FBS as the 2 primary drivers behind it (NMSU, SHSU) have left for C-USA. That leaves only Tarleton and maybe SFA with immediate FBS aspirations and ability and odds are one of them will end up in C-USA.

More importantly, the NCAA constitution is being rewritten and that loophole is not expected to remain on the books next summer.

FBS could still be in the WAC future. Also, you don't add football without some intent of financial commitment.

What loophole are you referring to?
