2025 Transfer Portal

Discuss the MVC hoops season here.

The numbers of players in the portal is already obscene. College basketball as we knew it is dead.

An MVC coach or someone at a lower level who spends time and energy to develop a project will almost certainly have that guy poached if he becomes successful.

I am beginning to hate everything about "amateur sports".

TV viewership for the NCAA Tournament is the highest since 1993. The Field of 68 Youtube channel is exploding.

The game is not dying. It is different, but not dying.

The Field of 68 YouTube channel has 55k subscribers, I'm not sure that's a great example for your point. But I do agree that the game isn't dying, but is different.

I won't outright dismiss the TV ratings PR pieces, but Nielsen is using a new method to calculate viewership. That likely accounts for the majority of any uptick - which is about 4% year-over-year. We'd need to see it versus the old method to get a true comparison - but since we won't, we have to take the information for what it is.

Regardless, I don't doubt that viewership has increased - even if it is slight, on average. They had some pretty big matchups early (Pitino vs. Cal, for instance) Big schools with large alumni bases tune in to watch their teams and die-hard hoops fans watch everything they can even if their eyes can barely stay open for those late tip times.

The historical data has suggested that the Cinderella story is great in rounds one and two, but it kills viewership beyond that. This year's field composition basically eliminated any Cinderella after the second round - which is good for TV ratings, bad for those of us who cheer for the underdogs.

Undeniable, regardless of how many are watching it this season.

Lots of complaining but no one with any answers that make sense for all involved. That's the problem.

I could see something like how football is currently structured.

Trey Campbell, Ben Schwieger, Leon Bond, Will Hornseth, Max Weisbrod, RJ Taylor, Kyle Pock, Redek Born all confirmed to a local radio host that they'll be back next year.

UNI will not lose any rotation pieces that had eligibility left.

Jake said they will look for an experienced big in the portal. Only one roster spot available (unless they shuffle Hunter Jacobson off)

Again. Having a winning culture and stability and guys will stay. No, it won’t be 100% always but it won’t be some catastrophic meltdown like some think.
