Another Expansion/Realignment Thread

In the OVC, I really enjoyed our tournament format, although most here will balk at this.

Only the Top 8 teams are in the tournament, which makes the regular season have more meaning and limits the outside chance a bottom-feeder gets hot and advances to the NCAA Tournament. Seed 5 plays 8, 6 plays 7, and the Top 4 get a bye to the semi-finals. Top 4 seeds rewarded by only having to play two games to get to the NCAA Tournament. I thought it was a great format. This would take the Madness right out of Arch Madness. No thanks. I get this for the sake of getting your best team an auto bid, but the tournament itself sucks.

My vote is stay at 11 and go back to 18 league games. Everybody qualifies for the league tournament.

What format for eleven team tournament?

Basically an expanded version of the 10-team tournament - but you have 6 teams "play in" instead of 4:

1 vs. 8/9
4 vs. 5
2 vs. 7/10
3 vs. 6/11

This year the format would be pretty spot on. Big reward for top 3, medium reward for 4/5, Drake Night for 6-11. That aligns closely with the breaks in tiers this season. Although 6th place is getting the shaft a bit.

The only change to the format is Thursday afternoon. We eliminate the Thursday noon game -- which is a win for everyone because who actually makes that game on time.

No thanks. This takes away the most appealing aspect of Arch Madness. Every team gets to hit reset no matter what they did in the regular season. If you are the 11 or 12 seed and survive the gauntlet to the finals, then you deserve it.

And selfishly, as someone who attends every Arch Madness game each year, I want to watch as much live basketball as possible.

Yep, we have 7-8 fan bases in this league who plan around attending Arch Madness every year. This isn't the OVC where 1 fan base attends and everyone else brings 15 fans. Arch Madness is a generational tradition and critical get-together and energizer for BU, ISUr, SIU, ISUb, UNI, Drake, etc.

Asking for the OVC format is like asking for the old HL format where the regular season champions got to host quarters and semis, and whatever highest seed got a home game. Just doesn't make sense
