Keep personal attacks out of this guys. Of course basketball should be the only consideration. I'm sure if the ADs vote on this, that's what they'll be using for their own criteria.

Also, I don't mean to pick on any schools, but don't you think Air Force is a better school for the Valley than say Evansville or Drake?

This whole thing just makes no sense at all. Air Force adds nothing to the Valley but travel expense.

Can somebody tell me what influenced Air Force to contact the Valley?

I don't think it's any more complicated than right now, there are a large number of schools/conferences in panic mode right now. And accordingly, administrators are finding out what options are out there. I read another comment today from Doug Elgin that seemed to indicate he had received a number of inquiries, but he would keep names confidential.

The Air Force AD said he was looking for a league where his programs could be competitive, and the Valley does offer that.

However, with Boise being in the picture now, it is probably only a 50/50 scenario as both might end up back in the WAC for Olympic sports.

I will be curious if names surface if/when the expansion committee is commenced.

I forgot there is a rule that if you play FBS football you can't park your Oly's in another league that sponsors FBS football unless your football is indeed Independent.

So really AFA has WCC, Big Sky, Summit, and Valley as their options unless the NCAA grants some sort of waiver.

edit: I should say forgot I had seen this mentioned as a regulation multiple times lately. I do not have first hand knowledge or rather I have not seen the actual regulation.

Conferences are our for blood. The A-10 and Colonial have both been trying to get teams from the other conference to join their own. If the MVC isn't active with expansion we can't complain if and when bad things happen.

You know, I don't know if that's a general requirement or not. I've read several things, and it seems unclear what exactly the situation is. One time, the Air Force AD said he was required to keep all sports in the same league. But I read somewhere else that it was a MWC requirement to initially keep members like Air Force committed to the league, but also keep Boise State out, as they were repeatedly asking to be a football-only member. Well, once Utah left, BYU left for the WCC because of that requirement. So they quickly changed that.

So is Boise St an option for the Valley too? What about BYU? If we're going west, we might as well add a few out there.

I'd take BYU in a heartbeat. Yeah, the "no games on Sundays" might be inconvenient for certain sports (I've heard that is why the Big 12 ultimately passed on BYU), but they'd be great for a lot of other reasons. They could keep their FB independent or put it in another conference. The WCC snagging their non-FB sports was a very shrewd move and I'm a little jealous.

All the benefit accrues to the Air Force Academy...none for the MVC. AFA has no ties to any of our schools, no affiliation, nor historic ties to the region, and brings no significant improvement or no notable level of play to any of our Olympic sports. No benefit accrues to the MVC for admitting Air Force.

No. Let Air Force join the WCC or Summit League.
