Thad Matta popped a positive drug test so he's done. Forever.

Ironically enough, Matta has been brought into IU as the AD that oversees basketball or something. I assume that means if the new hire flames out quickly, Matta will be CIW.

Kyle Green officially hired by Iowa State.

AJ released a statement confirming that he is staying in Cedar Falls.

With Kyle Green gone at UNI, AJ staying, and most of the roster returning, who is in line to take Kyle's spot?

From an outsider's perspective I could see:
One of the current assistants gets promoted to Assoc. HC (Kyle was, right?) then Jake brings in a younger assistant. Ali Farokhmanesh comes to mind. Currently on the staff with Niko Medved at Colo St.

Or, since the team is going to have so much experience returning, bring in someone with a ton of it themself.... Greg Lansing anyone? Lansing could probably end up higher on a P5 bench (a la Marty Simmons), but he's been a long-time Valley guy and seems to love the league. Surely there is mutual respect between Jake and Lansing as two of the longest tenured coaches in recent memory.

Anyone else sticking out?

The first call is Lansing, he and Jake are really close, Lansing grew up in Iowa and he's the only one that would get the 'Associate Head Coach' Title.

Farokhmanesh is probably unrealistic financially. Green was making $140k, Ali makes $160k and seems to have a really good thing going with Medved. I don't see that one happening.

Jake thinks really, really highly of Seth Tuttle but he's never been in a recruiting position and doesn't really have any contacts that wouldn't double up what we already have.

I think it'll probably be an outside hire with connections to Minnesota and Wisconsin. Frankly, I think that's a good thing. The Mac/Jake tree has gotten a wee bit incestuous and could use an outside voice.

Indiana State filling out its staff: Indiana State coach Josh Schertz will add former South Alabama head coach Matthew Graves and ex-UMKC head man Kareem Richardson to his staff. A couple of guys with D1 HC experience will help Schertz.

Good for Marty. I'm sure he's taking a pay cut to take over the reigns of a program. But, if he has aspirations of getting back to being named for HC gigs, he's gotta start somewhere. I'd imagine EIU is going to start ending up on some more MVC team's noncons.

Roy Williams calls it quits. Probably a good time for the old dudes to get out. Navigating the transfer portal, the immediate eligibility, COVID, it's got to be a hell of a time being a coach right now.

Who's in line for the gig? Cal?
