A tip does count as an attempt to score, and if you are fouled during such an attempt, it's 2 free throws (three if you are stupid enough to foul someone attempting to tip a 3 pointer).

cant wait for the rubber match in St. Louis, unfortunately I don't see the Bears as a 3 day team (depth sucks). If we draw the #1 seed I think we will make it to the championship game but UNI/WSU could own in the championship game. :(

I don't think if you are attempting to tip in a missed 3 pointer it would be 3 FT, unless it is a very long tip (beyond the 3pt arc).

I was being silly and meant a shot tipped from beyond the arc. Obviously that wouldn't happen in a real game situation, except when a team is down 3 with 0.3 seconds (or less) left on the clock.

This game wasn't lost by us because of officiating...there were plenty of poor calls against both teams. I thought UNI's decision to start double teaming the post was a good move and we did not respond well to those double teams. You let a good team hang around long enough and they are going to beat you. Credit to UNI for winning a hard fought game. Still a long way left to go in conference and I still like MSU's chances. Time to move on....Go Bears!

The call for Moran as a shooting foul was absolutely nonsensical, and that combined with the armbar that Weems fought through to get there and Leonard being abused on the last shot decided the game. Then again, that's the sort of thing that has made this a one-bid conference, and the rest of the regular season is now a glorified seeding exhibition for all Valley teams.

That said, UNI badly outcoached MSU tonight. The Bears had no clue what to do with the high screen, Leonard was a non-entity, and UNI controlled the pace in the second half. On top of that, there's no excuse for not using those extra fouls in the second half on the final UNI drive. They'll be a tough team the rest of the way for the Bears, as I expect it to be between these two teams for the title. Luckily MSU has the easier schedule, so if they can regroup from this one like they did against InSU they'll be okay.

Holy crap lol, what game were you watching?

You are nuts. Nice meltdown though. ;)

Hopefully we see MSU in St. Louis on Sunday for the rubber match.

What were we thinking?!?!?!?

We had two fouls to give and we foul on a tip-attempt?!?!?! Idiotic play.

The game was on the U and most of us watched it. The officiating hardly seemed to favor UNI. I think many believe that it was MSU that got a majority of the calls. I remember one time (and posted about it earlier in the thread while watching the game) where the MSU center took about 5 or 6 steps without ever even taking a dribble.

Believe me, MSU got more than its share of the calls.

Nice game Panthers!

You guys do what you do and just hung around until you had a chance to win at the end. Great college basketball game and hopefully the nation enjoyed watching to good teams play Valley ball. Bears still tied for 1st and have a decent schedule.

In fairness....at Ind St, Mallet got beaten badly on the drive to the basket and Weems had the choice of either letting a game winning basket go or try to block/foul to make them earn it. The guard did a great job of keeping the ball far away from Weems and flipping it up. In this game, Weems had a great seal on his guy, and bad perimeter D forced Leonard to leave his guy in the corner to flash to the shooter. Weems simply went up for a rebound and the guard coming down baseline slid in front, I don't really know if Weems knew the guy was coming in. I guess Weems alternative would have been to either keep his guy blocked out and let the ball fall to the floor, or let the guy put the ball back in. Weems did a great job both times for the situation he was left in by his teammates, and unfortunately the guy on the other side did his job better. You won't make that statement very often.
