They have to brag about something I guess, if the NIT title makes them feel good then they should shout from some mountain somewhere, although there are none in Kansas. But I am all for there enthusisasm. Look they have a fine baseball program, a fine bowling team I hear, and a good aeronautical engineering program. Those are all things to take pride in. They have a slightly better than mediocre basketball tradition which isn't all bad, but they try to make it bigger than it is. I wouldn't go as far as to say they are deluded, but they have an inflated sense of self worth in some ways. They have this peculiar combination of brash arrogance combined with deep seeded insecurities. Interesting bunch to converse worth. Sometimes I wonder if the Valley neighborhood really needs them, RPI be darned but in the end I don't mind them. I always get a chuckle at their boisterous bravado but it makes things fun around these parts.
Comments from a guy that hasn't sniffed being correct in about 2 years on this board (or likely anywhere else).
You and like minded morons don't get that winning a few games here and there doesn't equate to investing and not being a drag on some of us. UNI nutjobs, for instance, like to bring up the fact they have football and WSU dropped football. You want to know one of the biggest reasons we dropped football? Because the entire Valley BAILED on WSU, leaving them as an independent along with Notre Dame, Army, Navy and the like. Not exactly a blueprint for long term success and we aren't interested in 1AA or FBS or D2 or whatever it is or was at the time. Nobody outside of Cedar Falls cares or ever will care. Creighton thinks and acts big, so does WSU even when they don't win. Bradley used to, but that's been in serious question for sometime. Illinois State could but doesn't. Tulsa did and got the hell out. The Valley added 3 programs that will NEVER sustain success for any length of time and have no chance at any kind of national attention. You can like it or not, but the Valley was weakened, substantially, when they added SWOMO, Evansville and Northern Iowa. The Valley has always been a lot better for those programs than those programs have been for the Valley.
Well, if you keep telling yourself that to feel better about yourself, maybe it will someday become true. But as it stands now the facts do not support your argument.
